Gaza, heute. Israel bombardiert schutzlose Zivilisten in Flüchtlingszelten.

One year ago, Israeli authorities began “Operation Iron Wall,” forcibly removing 32,000 Palestinians from their homes in West Bank refugee camps. HRW documented the forced displacement, which amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity. Read more: hrw.org/news/2025/11/2…

The genocide is still ongoing. I could have never imagined writing hundreds of pages and giving hundreds of interviews on such a crime and still seeing it ravaging over two years on.

As a Palestinian, I condemn the horrific massacre in Bondi and the targeting of innocent people from the Jewish community at the start of Hanukkah. This is utterly abhorrent. I extend my deepest condolences to the Australian Jewish community and to all the victims and their families. Terrorism, antisemitism, violence, racism and hatred are crimes against humanity and have no place anywhere whether in Australia or anywhere else in the world.

Storm Byron is hitting the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of thousands of people displaced by Israeli genocidal attack are huddling in makeshift tents, many flooded due to the mass bombing of sewage and drainage systems. Two years of genocide have left this vulnerable population exposed to the worst of winter and the spread of disease, with literally nowhere dry to shelter. Yet two months into the so-called “ceasefire,” Israel is still blocking aid. More than 6,500 trucks are currently waiting to be let into Gaza with essential winter supplies including tents, blankets, warm clothing and hygiene materials. Meanwhile, children are going barefoot and wearing summer clothes in the freezing cold. World leaders and the international community continue to look away and abandon the people of Gaza.

Today in the early morning, Israeli police accompanied by municipal officials forcibly entered the @UNRWA compound in East Jerusalem. Police motorcycles, as well as trucks & forklifts, were brought in & all communications were cut. Furniture, IT equipment & other property was seized. The @UN flag was pulled down & replaced with an Israeli flag. This latest action represents a blatant disregard of Israel’s obligation as a United Nations Member State to protect & respect the inviolability of UN premises.  Following months of harassment that included arson attacks in 2024, hateful demonstrations & intimidation, supported by a large-scale disinformation campaign, as well as anti-UNRWA legislation passed by the Israeli parliament in breach of its international obligations, UNRWA personnel were forced to vacate the compound at the beginning of this year.   However, whatever action taken domestically, the compound retains its status as a UN premises, immune from any form of interference.   Israel is party to the Convention on the Privileges & Immunities of the UN. The Convention makes UN premises inviolable - in other words, immune from search and/or seizure - and makes UN property and assets immune from legal process.  The International Court of Justice has also underscored that Israel is obliged to cooperate with UNRWA & other UN agencies.   There can be no exceptions. To allow this represents a new challenge to international law, one that creates a dangerous precedent anywhere else the UN is present across the world.

A post too long for anyone to read I was asked why I do not post anymore. There are many answers. Mainly that the suffering of our people was there for all to see. That the problem was not lack of information or arguments. That if by now your mind is not made up about Palestinian plight or Palestinian right nothing will convince you. But as Gaza/Palestine disappear from the media and even from social media it is worth reminding that people are still suffering tremendously. That their lives and existence are still under attack. That they remain surrounded by danger and death. I see some friends sharing two sets of images: Palestinians killed and maimed in Gaza and in the West Bank, of children in drowning tents or sitting near the ruins of their homes and lives, of villagers attacked by settlers, and alternatively the images of students going back to school in Gaza amid the ruins, or of parts of a rebuilt hospital trying to heal the endless wounds or couples marrying and celebrating forgetting death for a few minutes and renewing their contract with life despite its repeated betrayals. Sometimes I think that our greatest curse is how resilient our people are. That makes many praise this resilience when we desperately need help, and when no one should be asked to continue to endure such injustice and such suffering. I keep thinking of this mother who by some miracle was able to keep her child alive during two years of genocide to see him killed after the ceasefire was announced. The survivors of the genocide deserve some respite, some relief, but while the scale is different, the suffering continues. Gaza… our people are humans not myths, made of flesh and blood and should stop being expected to be superheroes and their agony should be recognized not romanticized. It should be stopped. How much more humiliation and suffering and injustice can one nation endure. This cannot continue being our fate, our fatality, our future. I do not post because I fear posting relieves me, makes me feel I made a difference by sharing what is, in the hope it will help change it, and we should not feel relief until they do. But as a friend rightly pointed, our silence may also contribute to Gaza disappearing from the public consciousness so we have an obligation to continue sharing. So I will. But can’t but wonder, what else should people see or hear or read to know what is happening and for that knowledge to lead to action that transforms this reality. I keep imagining people wondering in a few years how all this happened, for so long, at such scale, with such impunity, and for all to see. It cannot be explained. Gaza deserves life. Palestine deserves freedom. Our people are entitled to it and they endured far more than their share of pain and agony to achieve these simple basic rights. And yet, one generation after another, Palestinian children are denied these rights and often discover death before they are able to understand or experience life. And it never stops. Will it ever stop?
