Harrowing footage captures the moment an overloaded ferry capsizes just before docking near Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At least 78 people have died, with the toll expected to rise. The ferry, MV Merdy, was reportedly carrying 278 passengers, though it was only built for 80. The accident occurred on October 3 as the vessel approached the port of Kituku, near Goma, after crossing the lake from Minova. Many watching from the pier were waiting to meet friends and family onboard or were traders from the nearby market.

@NasimiShabnam I am outraged and horrified and saddened by what the Taliban continue to do to women and girls in Afghanistan. It is treating them as less than human and the world just looks on. Why does the @UN do nothing? Why does @UKLabour do nothing? Because there's no money involved?

1112 days since the Taliban banned girls from school. Millions of girls are out of classrooms, in the ONLY country in the world that bans female education. Why are we not outraged? How have we allowed this to happen in 21st century? How can we let the Taliban get away with this?

@CaptainVirgilx Indeed. I assumed my readers would discern the difference between the nation, Australia, which I will criticise for what it does, and its people whom I will happily praise for their resistance. On this occasion I may have been over optimistic. So it goes.

I must go but not for the first time, I feel proud to be British. Australia sat on its hands whilst five or six men were decanted into the Flying Bats women's football team. Within a week of a man being parachuted into Sutton women's team, our women appear to have taken action.

These news…. russian forces launched two ballistic missiles at the city of Poltava. At least 41 people were killed and over 180 were injured, President Volodymyr Zelensky said. The strike hit an educational institution and a neighboring medical facility. The attack partially destroyed the building of the Military Institute of Communications. 💔💔💔

@RexKram55112378 @trbell_ I have no objection to rainbow lanyards worn by anyone. I'm just sad that only certain communities get the awareness/attention. Disabled people are in equal need of inclusion and recognition yet there is nothing for them that I've seen people wearing on trains.

Some of the replies suggest that only #LGBTQIA people wear rainbow lanyards which is simply nonsensical. If I wear an RSPCA lanyard it doesn't make me a dog or a cat.
