So excited to be here tonight in Miami, celebrating the House of Victoria Beckham at @BalHarbourShops with my family and friends!

@justinmadders I hate to break it to you Justin, but it’s all downhill from here. I’d start updating your CV if I was you.
English

@andyburnham Why don’t you ask the electorate if they trust you? #GeneralElectionNow
English

As the first day of nominations draws to a close, I am deeply grateful to the 322 Labour MPs who have put their trust in me and nominated me for Leader of the Labour Party.
Their support comes from across the PLP and reflects a shared belief that Britain needs a new approach to politics.
That is the circuit breaker I am offering: power out of Westminster, an economy rewired for ordinary people, and good growth in every postcode.
I want to empower MPs to bring the experiences of their constituents into the heart of government, and harness the full breadth of our Labour movement, drawing on all its traditions and beliefs in pursuit of a common purpose.
I want to thank every colleague who has nominated me for their commitment to that vision.

@marshallscore @andyburnham Occupational therapists taught me to write again in hospital in 2009 after a serious neurological illness.
English

@lukeakehurst @andyburnham Take the rest of the week off, you must be exhausted.
English

@DanNeidle It was a relief to see one person was talking sense, unfortunately for Gary it wasn’t him.
English

@andrewpakes_ @CoopParty What, like not having a leadership contest or General Election?
English

This morning I nominated Andy Burnham to be Labour’s next Leader.
I’m proud that Andy could be the first Cooperative PM in our history.
It’s not just about rebuilding trust with politics, it’s about doing politics differently.

@campbellclaret @CountBinface Show me you know nothing about betting without telling me you know nothing about betting.

@BBCSimonJack @danquahfrankjnr Simon, I respectfully disagree. Name one thing Bellingham does better than Gerrard? Gerrard was stronger in the tackle, a better passer including from wide positions, had a far stronger shot, could score anytime of goal you care to mention, it isn’t even close.
English

@danquahfrankjnr I respectfully disagree. As a Liverpool fan I am one of the biggest worshippers of Stevie G but Bellingham is a more complete player. Even Stevie would agree I think.
English

@antonliubich Absolutely nailed it. The best tweet I’ve read in years. All the best my friend. 👍

I was raised with dignity. But now, at 40, I can say it plainly: I grew up poor. I remember weeks when we ate nothing but porridge and pasta. One Snickers bar, cut with a knife for three people, was our dessert once every couple of weeks. Pepsi was a drink only for holidays too.
But I never hated the rich. I never wished to take what was someone else's. I never believed I was owed anything by people who owed me nothing.
In school I read enormously. Books took the place of travel. They let me see the "bigger life" beyond the small town around the steel mill where I grew up. And from those books, from the biographies of great men, I learned, page by page, line by line, not just the price of success, but something more important: that the true success of each such person made life better for entire generations.
So from childhood I believed in honest work, in enterprise, in persistence.
I grew up in a communist country. And even as a child I understood that my poverty back then was the consequence of exactly that — the envy and hatred of the rich that ate away at my country like rust for seventy years. I refused to grow the same poisonous fruit in my own heart.
Gary Stevenson@garyseconomics
The future of this country is extreme poverty, unless we tax the super rich more.
English

@garyseconomics I mean this most sincerely Gary. You are an absolute throbber.
English

@bealolufc Bet you think it’s all been worthwhile now? Have a great night. ⚽️⚽️⚽️
English

@afneil Answer “I love Sally Cinnamon by The Stone Roses, I’m a right northerner I am, sorted.”

Andy Burnham is now taking a few questions, albeit in highly controlled circumstances. He’s coming across as a bit Forrest Gump: well-meaning, naïve, uninformed.
So let’s get real. Here’s a proper question about a huge issue.
There are almost 11m people of working age in the UK who are economically inactive.
Yet Skills England reports that construction is short of 1m workers to meet the current infrastructure and housing targets — and that’s before you include Mr Burnham’s plans for a massive council house building programme.
It’s a clear sign of a labour market — skills shortage AND huge inactive labour pool — not functioning properly.
It needs to be put right before we have any chance of decent growth.
So, Mr Burnham, what would you do to put it right?
English

@itvfootball Could you ask @GNev2 who he’s referring to when he said “this lot”?
English

@Rod_Studd He also never watched a game of Rugby League until he became the MP for Leigh.
English

@Rod_Studd I’ve met Andy Burnham and lived in the same village as him. I can confirm he is a grade A wanker.
