@ikostrikov Post-training might be the future, but nature's still got the ultimate dataset. All the DNA on Earth holds ~100 yottabytes of info—way more than the entire internet. Plenty of data left to train on!

There are dozens of online MP4 to WebM converters
And all of them hook up to server and convert on the backend
But i am now 100% sure it can be done in the browser using WebCodecs: faster, private, offline
Nobody’s been crazy enough to build it..

Most people don't know I made this and the UX is quite clunky but it works: ✈️ airlinelist.com It collects data on most airlines and airplane models With all the Boeing news, you can use it to find airlines which do NOT have shitty Boeing planes like the 737 Max (now sneakily rebranded to 737-8) I've kept it updated with every airline accident and problem for years, and it's free to use!

6 months post-Google, the tech I miss most:
- Critique (code review tool). Nothing I’ve used externally touches it. Someone please solve this 🙏
- Blaze. Python build & packaging outside Google is unfortunately painful. Won’t use Bazel because reasons.
- Being able to ping the person who wrote whatever tool I’m using and get a response very quickly.
Lots of stuff I don’t miss, for another day.

I feel like this is something that should be a much bigger story than it is: Starting next year, American passport-holders won't have visa-free access to Europe. Instead, you'll have to pay 7 Euros and wait *14 days* for an entry visa to be processed. reason.com/2023/07/28/say…

@DavidDeutschOxf @kmett Someone in HNs yesterday: LLMs lack the "lizard brain" found in animals, responsible for emotions and motivations. We use the neocortex to satisfy primitive urges. LLMs, like "new-cortexes," lack inherent motivation and require instructions. We should fear people misusing LLMs.

@kmett Oh dear. A "belief system" that "collapses" because things are better than one's wildest dreams shouldn't make one very sad. Unfortunately, things aren't as good as he prophesies: LLMs are the opposite of AGIs.
