@PecanC8 unfortunately it's probably the SUV at fault. Bicyclists have become such a nuisance to traffic and I dont get it. We used to ride our bikes everywhere with no bike lanes or bike gear and I guess we just had brains enough to stay out of the damn way, unlike these fools.

Who was in the wrong? I say absolutely the car even though the bicyclists were not single file. I always go wide around bikes. Every time. Or hang back until I can.

President Trump’s plan to resurface the Lincoln Memorial’s Reflecting Pool with an “American Flag Blue” color has some historic preservationists feeling blue. The nearly $2 million project will be completed in time to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration on July 4. wapo.st/4cNMhqD

@mickbz63 @balkwhisperer My interpretation is that if it’s rolling it’s “in contact with the ground” and would still be foul unless it hits the line. Ball settling on fair/foul territory between home and 1st/3rd was already part the definitions of fair ball and foul ball.

The problem is that Official Baseball Rules says “on or over” when touched but Umpire Manual says only fair if touching. Then MLB Glossary has a summary of OBR but doesn’t include “on or over.” So MLB is telling Ben ( who works for MLB in some capacity) that it was a foul ball
Ben Verlander@BenVerlander

🚨OFFICIAL RULING FROM MLB🚨 I reached out to MLB since there is a lot of confusion regarding this play: “In our Umpire Manual, here is the definition of a fair ball:   FAIR BALL Definitions of Terms: When in contact with the ground, a ball must be in contact with fair territory and not merely over fair territory in order to be adjudged to be fair.” MLB acknowledged an error was made.

@andyharry819 @balkwhisperer I mean this new rule is a direct contradiction to the definition of "fair territory" , which extends up from the outer edge of the line infinitely. They say the old way was too confusing but they're nuts🤣

@andyharry819 @balkwhisperer you're right and I'm wrong. they changed the rule in 2018. Now if a ball is rolling along the line and part of the ball is over but not touching it's fair like it's always been, but the moment it stops it has to be touching the line to be fair. Some baseball rules are Yogi-isms😂

MLB Scoring Changes
MLB Scoring Changes@ScoringChanges·
Everyone’s response is dealing with a fly ball beyond first or third that hasn’t touched fair territory yet. For THAT, the bottom of the ball has to hit the actual line. On the ball in question it already touched in fair territory and is inside the bases, so as long as any part of the ball is over the line, it’s fair. Also here is the thing with me…I know the rules and I generally don’t jump in unless I know the rule. I cited the @CloseCallSports video of an identical play with the Yankees that explained why this is a fair ball. While my expertise is in scoring, part of that is knowing the rules in and out. In my other life and real job (in sports) part of what makes me good there and I have the rule books for many sports very well memorized. Both umpires saw that a part of the ball was over the line, and they were adamant on it.
John@JohnMccholl

@ScoringChanges @CloseCallSports @Jomboy_ Can you please acknowledge and address the numerous responses that appear to cite a new rule contradicting your analysis? It’s ok to be wrong (if that’s the case), but it’s a huge credibility hit if you just ignore the counterpoints entirely.

@dead_baseball So they changed the rule in 2018 because of confusion. Now if a ball is rolling down the line as long as any part of the ball is over the line, breaking the plane, it's fair. But the moment is stops and part of the ball is over the line but not touching it, it's foul. Dumb🤣😂🤣

MLB rulebook quirk. For a ball settling in the infield, a ball has to be ON fair territory to be considered fair. If touched, the ball can be ON OR OVER fair territory to be considered fair. SD turned a foul ball into a fair ball by touching it.

As a COMEDIAN let me say this about that… Jimmy Kimmel out here doing comedy math after the fact. “Oh no, you see… the joke was about the age difference.” Was it? That’s fascinating… because not ONE WORD about age showed up in the setup. That’s like me punching you in the face and then explaining, “No, no… that was actually about climate change.” Well you might say that now… but that ain’t what just happened. Comedy has rules. Not a lot… but the ones we got matter. Setup… THEN punchline. You don’t get to do the punchline first and then hold a press conference explaining what the joke meant. That’s not stand-up… that’s damage control. If the joke was about Trump being 80 and Melania being 50 you gotta SAY THAT. You gotta walk us down that road. You don’t just teleport to the punchline and then act like the audience missed the turn. That ain’t a joke… that’s a BS excuse. And comedians know this. That’s Comedy 101. That’s Day One, open mic, two-drink minimum, “please clap” level stuff. So no… it wasn’t about age. Because if it was, the audience would’ve HEARD IT. What it really was… was a disgustingly bad joke!

@RichardGrenell I think only a buffoon would believe the former FBI director didn't know what 86ing someone meant. But proving it in a court of law is a whole different ball game. They better have something to show for a fact that he knew what it meant or he's going to get away with it.
