@CBBaileyLab @Brady_H 1 allows you to press, way more often. It’s also why a lot of age groupers are already able to stack 15-20 hrs/wk of training. All I’m saying is it’s very difficult. Track isn’t very developed in the US in comparison, and we have stint examples of intense training while young

@mid_hank @Brady_H 1. Swimming lacks impact 2. So many menstrual issues were swept under the rug and the consequences are not as obvious without the risk of stress fx that running has. But RED-S has consequences even if you aren't breaking bones.

Having your 11-year-old child run a hard half marathon (and train for one) is ludicrous. IMHO.

@Brady_H What’s your take on this level or exertion and fitness at this young of an age?

@stevemagness The idea that any one marker alone matters is utter nonsense. You want to live long? Monitor body fat%, muscle mass, VO2 max, hrv, miletime, etc. The entire picture is what matters.

For health and longevity, your mile time is more important than your VO2max.

You clearly saw this post and I genuinely don’t understand how that is your conclusion. I clearly state that although my top Z2 is technically that pace, that isn’t actually easy, and I do all my easy stuff way easier. And for the 10k, I made it pretty clear there were some issues and that wasn’t a full reflection of my current ability. I’m likely right around or slightly under 36:00 for a 10k right now. Here’s the post you keep citing but clearly didn’t actually read. Again, please explain how I’m “violating my own narrative” and while you’re at it, explain “the gap in my own data.” x.com/hybridathlete/…

You shared Alan’s post saying amateurs don’t realize their EZ runs are actually at 2.5-3 mmol, and that real easy training is closer to 1 mmol. You co-signed it saying most people wouldn’t believe what 2-3 mmol feels like. Then your own post from two weeks ago lists your Z2 running pace at 6:30-7:00 on a 37 10k. 30-60 seconds off of a beyond threshold race pace. Even your posted Z2 lactate of 1.2-1.6 (1.2, sure all good here) is above actual easy. You’re warning amateurs about a gap that shows up in your own data. That’s what I mean. I recognize I’m probably being dense with result timing and test timing. But still.

@HankFrank @LeeMessina “300-500 miles depending on how the foam holds up” is fundamentally the same as not tracking mileage

Depends on the shoe. Daily trainers I’ll run 300-500 miles depending on how the foam holds up. Carbon plated race shoes I keep under 200 because the foam degrades faster at those speeds. But the real answer is pay attention to how your legs feel. When you start noticing more soreness than usual in the same shoes, they’re probably done.

The amount of runners who don’t track the mileage on their shoes is wild to me. A runner will ice their knees, foam roll for 30 minutes, buy a massage gun, book a PT appointment, change their stride, and adjust their entire training plan before ever once checking how many miles are on their shoes. Strava tracks it for you. Add the shoe, assign it to your runs, done. Takes 10 seconds. Track your shoes. Rotate them. Replace them before they fail you.

Huber is so far out of his lane lately with the fitness posts that Grok thinks he's Nick Bare. C'mon Grok, Nick Bare would never be so desperate for attention that he'd start posting ridiculous, attention seeking takes on topics completely unrelated to his area of "expertise."

I haven't done the following exercises in 15 years: 1. Bench 2. Squat 3. Clean 4. Dead lift I actually think it is ridiculous for non-competitive athletes to EVER do these exercises. Risk of injury simply too high. Much better: 1. Push ups 2. Body squats (kettlebell) 3. Turkish get up (kettlebell) 4. Single leg RDL (kettlebell) Oh and pilates > weight room.

this time of year keeps telling you the next purchase will finally make you feel okay. it won’t. a never-ending tab of “hobbies” is just a kinder word for gluttony. use your hands. learn to build beautiful things with your labor. you’ll find what you are looking for.

@brian_drago_ @raiv11 This is what I meant, yes Quite a few people can find their way to a idk 1:50ish 200yd free as an adult Luke Hobson dropped 1:28.3. That’s winning by a 50, it’s insane

Not cooked! Just extremely extremely unlikely to make the Olympics. However, some have when starting at ~17 Swimmers also typically don’t transition to open water like elite track runners bump up to marathon. It is becoming more common now that open water is an Olympic sport, but the depth of field relatively low. Lots of impact to be made! Masters clubs are growing, give it a go! Just like all similar sports, you can get so much further than you expect. Ex: adults start running and make it to 2:20.. self made pro cyclists, the list goes on
