@ogre_codes @contractorsPOV Sure, time overall, but when it matters, gas is less concentrated down time than EV Ten(s) of minutes a couple times a month versus hour(s) when road tripping It's gotten much better though. MI to FL is 7 stops and less than 3 hours charging overhead 18 hours of driving

@contractorsPOV I get that. But unless you only drive long trips and no local driving, it’s a wash or even favors EVs in terms of time spent.

It’s frustrating how the people who have never owned an EV always discount the hundreds of gas stops eliminated by charging at home. My credit card connected to my Model Y supercharging account expired months ago disabling fast charging completely. My wife drives it daily.

And don’t forget #teslatalk where the bros with their wrapped cars hang around superchargers like it was the water fountain in an office bragging about this and that. I don’t have the time. 😑

@rhensing @BoBlackstone 3MW of continuous power can run about 2,400 average US homes. (US EIA: ~10,791 kWh/year per household = ~1.23 kW average load. 3,000 kW / 1.23 kW ≈ 2,435 homes, rounded down for real-world factors like transmission losses.)

And for the #teslarites who don’t understand 500 miles. Time is money. How long does it take to pump a tank of gas? 4-5 mins versus 30. Early last week I went up to the Yosemite area (about 300 miles.) I got up there, did my thing and got gas (5 mins) and drove back. With a Tesla. It would be drive up (maybe on one charge) charge up 20-30 mins, do my thing. Drive back, stop along the way to recharge (again probably another 20 mins…) That’s too long. 500 would be one recharge so it’s 10 mins gas versus 29-30 mins which I would consider.🤷🏼

Oh for sure, long distance is more likely to be routes with closer chargers which lead to shorter charging stops In-laws are <200 miles away Last Supercharger is Bay City, need >80% leaving BC to make it back to BC Over an hour of charge time added to 6.5 hour drive that the SUV can do on one tank + a gallon Unless... we are towing the big trailer, then we are stopping every 100 miles or less

Long range trips entails stopping for 10-30min charges over and over after 2-4 hours of driving. Medium range is annoying because there might not even be a supercharger on that trip, or you have to charge extra to make it back to the one that's on the way. An example for myself is 140 miles away. There is no charging at destination, and the only supercharger on the route is 71 miles in. Now some say "that's easy your Tesla can go 300 miles" but it cannot at highway speeds or especially if the weather is below 60F. So I have to stop at the 71 mile mark, charge up to at least 80% (usually more if I want to actually use my car at the final destination) to ensure I have enough charge to make it back to that one charger to make it back home. For me it is the worst experience vs a long road trip or shorter near home drives.

@WilliamShatner At the end of the day nobody wants to force you to drive anything. But the point is the Tesla experience is better than you think. You can't understand it until you try it. With that said, those medium range trips are the worst. Short range and long range are awesome though.

@niccruzpatane It takes two stops and an hour of Supercharging for a 400 mile day trip to inlaws I hit 1.6kWh/mile towing our travel trailer on the freeway. ~1kWh taking 55 MPH roads Sure, I can stop every 80 miles for a near full recharge, but a larger pack would be better 📐life

Unless you’re driving 500+ miles per day, you don’t need an EV with that much range. The average person drives around 37 miles per day. Current Tesla offerings provide way more than enough for the vast majority of people. On road trips, I can usually only drive about two hours before I need to get out, stretch my legs, etc. During that time, my car charges. It’s not the inconvenience people think it is. It doesn’t make sense to lug around a huge battery when most people don’t actually use that capacity.

I had an interesting conversation here yesterday. I want to poll a larger audience. Should voters 🗳️ decide if they want industries in their state that are dirty and cause health issues but also generate jobs and revenue for the state? 🏭☢️🔥⛏️ The example was oil refineries

I have a little insider knowledge on Slate… they are just beginning making tooling for much of their automation. What does this mean? For most manufacturers, that would mean they are 1.5-2 years away from SOP (start of production). What does this mean for Slate? They might be able to work quicker than legacy auto, but don’t expect mass manufacturing anytime too soon. They say deliveries built in late 2026. I expect them to miss this unless “deliveries” mean a few hand built vehicles for employees / investors. But by mid-2027 they should have things rolling!

@JowuaLife @herbertong @jchybow There aren't many cars without manual driving controls which is the first requirement to removing mirrors Tesla has a history of operating in the land of regulatory ambiguity, aka asking for forgiveness instead of permission. Or maybe, implementation is nine tenths of the law?

I think that's right, just not sure if there is any car on the road like this. Tesla must have long ago spoken to NHTSA because they've said production is next month, and they haven't applied for any exemptions still. Also, we are seeing both of them on road testing. There might not be side mirrors but there is definitely smoke and mirros.

This is the most important part of the Cybercab! This vehicle has certification labels which means it’s achieved compliance with all applicable U.S. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) This is why they don’t need and can bypass regulatory waivers or the exemption that’s capped at 2500 Zoox was not able to get this safety certification so their only recourse was the exemption. Waymo still has not announced any Robotaxi first designed vehicle so can only use traditional cars

@Cyber_Trailer It can be tricky because behavior depends on if the brake is pressed If it is, then a center tap engages park If it isn't (usual one pedal driving behavior) then you need to press and hold When really bored, you can watch the text change while tapping the brake

Tickky tac criticism of the Tesla UI is that I find myself sometimes unsure if the vehicle is in park or not. I think the letter P could be lit up a little brighter or a different color. Or maybe I’m not in Park?

The Cybercab never needed an exemption, once the side mirrors were added. Zoox has kept them off. But what’s odd is that this one doesn’t have them. I wonder if Tesla believes their self certification will sufficient because the cameras provide the same or better visibility, OR they just removed them for display here. Hmmm…

@BStarr119 @elonmusk The zero is easily explainable Coin cell model numbers use mm for diameter and 1/10mm for thickness A CR2032 is 20mm wide and 3.2mm thick The fractional part isn't as relevant for larger cylinders that don't go in holders, so Tesla dropped it

I messed up my Tesla lore, it was @elonmusk who dropped the extra zero and made the 2170 cells designation when no one from industry could explain the extra zero 😂 21mm by 70mm, makes sense

Grok mentioned they achieved this by making the drone’s takeoff weight 60% battery and that they used EV grade Li-ion cells over Li-poly, specifically the 21700 cell, notice that extra zero! I beleive they used teslas model 3 cell! Though I know higher energy density cells exist and it’s more likely they used those 😂 but this is something I’ve been wanting to try in RC planes for the longest time because of the boost you get in energy density over the status quo, it’s almost double!

Rising metal prices make those cables prime targets. Some attacks are even ideological haters, sabotaging the EV revolution. In 2024, incidents doubled across the board, turning charging spots into ghost towns. But what if we could end this madness? Flip the script on thieves and vandals? Enter the future: Just the stand. You bring the smart cable. No more theft or vandalism. Imagine sleek, minimalist power stands everywhere, curbside in malls, offices. No dangling cables to snag or steal. Instead, EV owners like us carry their own encoded, proprietary cable in the trunk. Plug in, charge up, and go. It’s secure, personalized, and vandal-proof because there’s nothing worth taking. Benefits? • Zero theft risk: Your smart cable stays with you, encrypted to your vehicle. • Vandalism? Forget it: Bare stands mean minimal damage quick fixes, max uptime. • Scalable & affordable: Cities deploy more stations without fear. EV adoption skyrockets. • Eco-win: Less waste from destroyed chargers, more reliable green miles. This isn’t sci-fi it’s the smart pivot EVs need in 2026.

Update on CT PCS failures. Spoke with my service team today and they said they’ve seen an influx of PCS replacements lately. Said Tesla is “looking into it” but not preemptively replacing yet. He thinks there is some sort of “fuse issue” but didn’t know much. 11k VIN FS AWD , 11k miles no PCS issues yet - Flat Flex Cable Harness (precautionary replacement in 24) - VC Left computer replaced at 10k miles - No PCS issue yet Fingers crossed Tesla starts replacing PCS on early CT’s for piece of mind. Don’t really trust it on a road trip with my family until more info comes out.
