The only way to save America is to start integrating small beloved businesses like bookshops into the ground level of apartment / condo complexes. A vibrant small business scene makes the rental units more desirable, and justifies higher rents. The landlords subsidize the businesses on the ground floor, allowing them to operate at narrower margins.
