Elected American representatives urging their voters to use their sacred freedom guns to shoot down a balloon 11 miles up in the sky is perfect Angry America. We are that dumb and we are so loud about being that dumb.

i used to practice aikido with a guy by the name of jason read, a teacher of philosophy at a small local college. he could well be the real life version of the "professor" in this scene: youtu.be/vTSmbMm7MDg

I’ve found that what suspects of violent gun crime say is less useful than digging into what they boasted about & obsessed about & got furious about in the months leading up to their crimes. It’s never a surprise. Look at their networks & behaviors. Their statements are their PR

The US did a very unusual thing when it voted out an aspiring autocrat despite huge obstacles (voter suppression, threats to officials, attempted coup, etc). But if the Dems do not abolish the filibuster and protect voting rights, the next US election will vote autocracy back in.

I sincerely appreciate that I'm free to continue body-shaming the previous president (in particular the short limbs) without anyone complaining.

@ThorningMichael @craigmindrum @NickKristof i would argue that there's a pretty sizable bloc that had been conditioned to not like democrats, regardless of what they're offering. and that is the problem. for many years, the gqp strategy has been to wage a culture war.

@craigmindrum @NickKristof If your approach is "crush the other side" that's fine. But you're also not going to win anyone over with that. And, as the 2020 election showed, there's a pretty sizable voting bloc that doesn't like what Democrats are offering.

In 3/20, all the Senate Democrats voted for Trump's Covid stimulus/relief bill. In 12/20, nearly every Senate Democrat voted for Trump's second Covid stimulus/relief bill. In 3/21, no Senate Republicans voted for Biden's Covid stimulus/relief package. Asymmetric Polarization.

@Super70sSports bat day at tiger stadium always fell around my birthday. every year we'd round up a hand and load into the ford country squire wagon. i can remember at some point we'd all begin rhythmically pounding the bats and the stadium would begin swaying. great times

Back when our society was still stable enough you could equip 10,000 fans with regulation baseball bats without worrying they’d immediately beat the living fuck out of one another.

there's this remarkable tool for verifying claims that aren't yet more widely known. it's completely free. you don't even have to sign up with an email subscription. it's called "google".

Hi, it's me, your neighborhood reasonable adult. I heard Dr. Seuss books were "banned" in a Virginia school district, which surprised me! So, I did what any reasonable adult would do with internet access: I looked it up to get official details. (thread)
