Still digesting, but it’s very clear that Pinehurst No. 10 is a very special course. Designed by Tom Doak and built by Angela Moser and Labar Golf, it’s an absolutely ideal addition to Pinehurst’s menu of courses. Notable holes abound, but here are four of my favorites: Hole 8: the best way I can describe this hole is that it’s like playing down the spine of a dragon. A huge sandy nob blinds most of the fairway and it’s mammoth mounds on this short par-4. The farther right the tee shot, the better the angle into this green, which sits in a hollow surrounded by large dunes. Hole 11: the first of the back nine’s three par-3s, this picturesque one-shotter plays uphill to a lovely green defended by a wicked slope left and a large bunker right. Hole 1: one of my favorite Doak-designed openers, this par-4 plays to a wide landing area. A small waste area crosses the fairway in front of an elevated and contoured green. Hole 17: arguably the prettiest hole on the course, this par-3 plays over water to an incredible green. Near infinite pin locations will have this hole playing completely differently from day to day. One of those holes you’d never get tired of playing. As a whole, the wild Doak greens, significant elevation change and rugged beauty of No. 10 is a terrific complement to No. 2 and No. 4. The course officially opens April 3 and I imagine it will immediately become a favorite for many.

There are still reminiscence of the old pit on No10s footprint, but most of the old Pit is still overgrown on the east side of the property

I think it was about 100 degrees that day. Was supposed to play #10 recently but passed on it because of rain. Just curious if any of the lines from The Pit were used for #10, of if it was a total redo.

If you remember the first three holes going straight west and then turning around to play straight back. That’s the area of our driving range, crossing hole 4, playing back to 3 tees, from 6 landing area beyond 7 tees,

A photo you can find in the @StGeorgesHillGC clubhouse if you know where to look… the 3rd hole on the Number 2 course built by Harry Colt in 1925. Uphill, approx. 165 yards with 6 bunkers flanking the green…

@evalu18golf In most of the old golf pictures & paintings you’ll see school boys caddying. Bernhard Langer got introduced to golf by caddying at the nearest GC. Nowadays caddying is a profession and therefore you’ll have to pay a lot more. less kids get introduced to the game that way. Pitty
