Gusii Shabana United was formed following the 2006 regulations and the administrative crisis that affected Shabana FC. The club was reportedly started by a group of Kisii-based brokers who intended to replace the original Shabana FC. However, key individuals stood firm to protect the identity and legacy of Shabana FC. Among them were Stephen Kiama, the late Nyairo from Nakuru, Peter Omwando, Aduda, and supportive officials from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). Their efforts ensured that the original club name and structure remained intact. For a period, Gusii United and the original Shabana FC operated as separate entities. Despite the challenges, Shabana FC remained resilient and, in 2024, achieved a major milestone by winning the second-tier title and securing promotion. At one point, FKF officials, alongside Stephen Kiama and his team, reportedly took firm action to remove individuals linked to the parallel structure from Gusii Stadium, reinforcing the legitimacy of Shabana FC. Over time, the rival entity faded away. Gusii Shabana United was eventually disbanded around 2012 following directives from high-ranking football authorities. Stephen Kiama remains a prominent and dedicated Organizing Secretary of Shabana FC. Over the years, he has served as a key figure and public face of the club, especially during the 2025/2026 season. He continues to rally supporters to fill Gusii Stadium and stand behind the team during crucial matches.
