@globeandmail No, it is not a ban on transgender athletes. Female athletes who identify as trans can compete in the female category.

@JamesPMNFan @jk_rowling did you read the IOC policy? Trans athletes are not prohibited from competing in the Olympics, they just have to qualify for the right category.

@jk_rowling Today's ruling is a disgusting display of transphobia that has been fueled by bigoted LOSERS like you My 6 yr old trans son Oliver had dreams of becoming a Olympic champion one day after watching them last month. He is in tears crying that his dream is lost. I hope you are happy

Today's ruling by the IOC means a welcome return to fair sport for women and girls, but I'll never forget the scandal of Paris 2024, when people who consider themselves supremely virtuous and progressive publicly cheered on men punching women.

@nyaraVT there is no such thing as intersex. there are people with DSD -difference in sex development. They are still born male or female, only with some of their sex organs, usually the secondary one like the penis or vagina not fully developed leading to mis ID of sex at birth.

@Kamalajoel_ @StateDept Apples to oranges comparison. Ukraine was attacked by Russia. US and Israel attacked Iran without consulting or even advance warning to allies. As to WWII, am pretty sure Europeans carried the heavy lifting on that war.

SECRETARY RUBIO: The U.S. is constantly asked to help in wars and we have. But when we had a need, it didn’t get positive responses from NATO. A couple leaders said that Iran was not Europe’s war. Well, Ukraine isn’t our war, yet we’ve contributed more to that fight than anyone.

@DarinBass4 @simonateba Semanya was born with male reproductive organs and an undeveloped penis mistaken as vagina causing misdiagnosis as female. Semanya would never had experienced any of the sex related development of a pubescent girl -- no breast enlargement, no menstruation, no hip widening.

@simonateba Idiot, Castor Semaya is NOT "TRANSGENDER". She was literally born with parts from both sexes and has always lived as a female. That is not the same thing as "choosing" to be the opposite sex and live that way.

@RoisinPitman @johnarmstrong5 This policy will ensure that elite female sports remain for female only, nothing wrong with that. Btw, there were two female athletes who identified as trans competing in the female category of their sports. There was no fuzz, no muss. No reason why male athletes who identify 1/

I am particularly pleased to learn that the IOC's new policy on the female category is informed by the views of athletes. It is astonishing that for years the female category was compromised without female athletes being asked for their views.

@SpunkTurtle @FondOfBeetles @frankinsensible A non-sequitur argument. Sex testing via cheek swab was a requirement in the Olympics until 1999, bringing it back is one of the best step to ensure the female category in sports is protected.

@FondOfBeetles @frankinsensible Considering no trans women has ever won a medal in the Olympics, and almost none have even competed, this seems very silly. And it will also be hilarious if Imane Khelif passes the SRY test and competes in 2028.

I wholeheartedly welcome the new IOC guidelines that secure a safe and fair female category that excludes male athletes. SRY screening is a simple, non-invasive, once-in-a-lifetime check that returns female sport to female athletes. Laurel Hubbard should not have been allowed to lift weights against women. Caster Semenya should not have been allowed to run against women. Imane Khelif should not have been allowed to punch women in the face. This is a vindication for all the brilliant women who have fought for fairness and safety for all women in sport. Thank you to Kirsty Coventry, Jane Thornton and all those in the working group for a clear, evidence based policy. @iocmedia

He can disagree all he likes. Male athletic advantage traces back to a single, decisive genetic event: the activation of the SRY gene, located on the Y chromosome. SRY triggers a developmental cascade that produces the structural and physiological traits relevant to athletic performance. Greater muscle mass and strength, for example, are a direct downstream consequence of this process. This cascade forms a bright line separating male from female athletic development: SRY presence and functional activity Testes differentiation Testosterone production and circulation Androgen receptor function Androgenisation at the cellular and tissue level substack.com/home/post/p-19…

@oliverbrown_tel So now women athletes are going to be slugged £180 pounds each to compete (based on the WA charge), just in case a trans woman slips in, despite the fact there's only been 2 trans women that have ever competed in the Olympics. Transphobia hurts ALL women.

Unambiguous from IOC president Kirsty Coventry: ‘It is absolutely clear that it would not be fair for biological males to compete in the female category. In addition, in some sports it would simply not be safe.’ But why on earth did she not recognise this at the Paris Olympics?

@gymnastphil @BBCSport DSD ARD-5 means born male with difference in development of secondary male organ (penis)resulting to being raised as a girl.Doesn't change the fact that Semenya's body produced male level testosterones that created male level advantage over female runners

@BBCSport I disagree with the DSD one because that’s how they were naturally born (Caster Semenya for example) as that’s taking it out on them through something that’s not their fault or beyond their control

The women's category of Olympic sports will be limited to biological females from 2028, says the International Olympic Committee. Eligibility will be determined by a "once in a lifetime" sex test, which would prevent transgender women and those with differences in sexual development (DSD) from competing. It will take effect from the Los Angeles Olympics. IOC president Kirsty Coventry said the policy was "led by medical experts".

@hillarytaylorvi @BBCBreaking Male bodied athletes who identify as trans are not barred from competing in the Olympics, they just have to compete in the right sex category -- MALE. In the same way, female bodied athletes however they identify compete in the FEMALE category. No discrimination.

@JuryTrialReport @nytimes nope they got rid of it because of political pressure, they gave in to the trans lobby. SRY testing is a screening tool. Those who fail the screening can be given further testing to ensure that the result was not a false positive. What makes sense is to introduce the SRY test 1/
