This is a genuinely interesting story. Huge amount of automated work, potentially saving hundreds of thousands of human hours. BUT: with an error rate of 10%, and with the precise reading of *every* word mattering in such an exercise, it is meaningless, and for manuscripts of authority worse than useless, without a human checking every single word. BUT: there simply aren't people, in 2026, with the expertise, the time, and the funding to check these 32,000 manuscripts at this level. Welcome to Digital Humanities Slop.

Everyone quote tweeting pics of traveling with their children is respectfully highly delusional. I love my daughter but if you travel with a baby or a toddler you’re not going to have a good time. Packing for it is an olympic sport, good luck figuring out car seats / sleeping situations. Even after that you wont have any of their shit, and they’re going to be fussy in awkward situations like on a plane for several hours with no room to run around. You’re going to have to mentally block out half of the trip because it’s not chill at all. Kids are great but don’t be a lying asshole. Thank you for your attention on this matter

A great series for longer train journeys. Some are average, but the best of the Very Short Introduction series are masterpieces.

An exchange that makes apparent what so often is occluded: the degree to which many arguments over political values are sublimated theology. The roots of what divides the left from the right invariably turn out to be disagreements over which particular Bible verse to emphasise
