He's hedging against the Osborne effect. All contracted supply of AI4 still needs to be consumed in vehicles. Robotaxis will be first vehicles to use ai5 but they'll likely run the ai4 model until enough data can be collected to train a new model optimized for ai5. My guess is robotaxi will use ai4 until there's low supply of those chips or a surplus of ai5 being produced. Supply chain problems are hard.

There's risk in this. A trajectory aiming for a shallow dip into the atmosphere to gently slow velocity would inherently create low margin control risk of a skip and slingshot into void of space. A more aggressive angle drastically increases peak heating but guarantees low variable free return trajectory, perhaps even under no/little power.

Im thinking more of a low density solution. Imagine skipping a stone across a pond rather than just dropping it. If you were to skim the upper atmosphere you can take advantage of drag while generating less heat, and allowing the lower temps to help keep you cool. That would certainly cut down on the thrust requirements.

Will be interesting to see if we actually agree to leave the Middle East entirely, reimburse everything that Iran lost over the last 20 something years of sanctions, tax payer funded reconstruction of industrial infrastructure, and allow them to impose a permanent toll on every vessel transiting the strait. It’s certainly one of the few available off ramps, but it does come at an incredibly steep cost.

@CSI_Starbase @Teslarati Yes - but the price of electricity is a 2nd order affect that is delayed, and therefore less emotionally associated with the price of oil. Additionally, many times it's tied to a predictable contracted price and less impacted by flippant, unexpected volatility.

@timdemeijer @ThreeDeDaniel @CSI_Starbase CH4 production will be the most interesting thing to see... I don't think they're planning on a gas well. I predict It will be a Mars fuel production trial run...(From air & water)

@ThreeDeDaniel @CSI_Starbase GSE. More prop storage tanks, water storage, separate CH4 storage, CH4 liquefier system, separate pad 1 prop pump farm, pad 1 deluge farm, all the stuff that they need to ramp cadence. It's all layout out in their proposals.

Good point, but competition won't take hold until demand begins to be satiated. The standing "theory" seems to be that current demand is at least an order of magnitude greater than the ability to supply services. Bakers don't really compete on quality when there's too many people that want cake... and actually quality tends to suffer under such conditions. ☹️

I just hope if (when?) the AI bubble bursts all the space computing is still of value. I suppose if you can make space compute cheaper than ground based, then it's a competitive advantage even if AI doesn't "pan out" so to speak.

@MassiBuilds @AJamesMcCarthy @Erdayastronaut Why can't you train in space? I think the theory is that next gen CPU (faster/denser/more power efficient) make it possible to scale the spaced based solution. These 10-15nm (or smaller) chips don't exist yet though....

What would make the AI investment trend "poppable" (a bubble) is anything that restricts the ability for the massive amount of investments made to actually create sufficient returns, which would need to happen before debt comes due. Main limiting factors I see are: 1) Our ability to build out energy infrastructure quickly enough to power the massive AI infrastructure being built. 2) People's tolerance for inflated energy prices and strained resources while the energy production buildout is occurring/gaining speed. 3)Speed of AI adoption needed to actually generate revenue once online. Any of these things can slow progress enough to "pop" the massive investment. Space based data center are an attempt to bypass the first 2.. ...but they require next gen cpus which don't exist yet...( Enter the need to build a chip fab....😵‍💫)

@WG_Mojo I don't doubt the core technology of AI is in our lives from here on out, but when AI tech accounts for a third of the US market value... and with everyone passing that NVIDIA buck around, something feels bound to burst.

I’m humbled and energized to bring my passion for photography and storytelling to NASA and work under @NASAAdmin Jared Isaacman as Special Communications Assistant to the Administrator. With my focus now fully on working alongside the best and brightest at NASA, my independent media coverage and for-hire work comes to an end. Thank you all for following along over the years! Be sure to follow NASA’s channels to see great content from across the agency. I have deep respect for NASA’s communicators and creatives, individuals whose work I’ve followed and admired for a long time. I’m profoundly grateful for the opportunity to work with them to help continue sharing NASA’s story with the widest audience possible and inspiring the next generation to look up to the stars. Under Administrator Isaacman’s leadership, we will do just that. John Kraus Special Communications Assistant to the Administrator NASA

Confirmed in parts catalog using vin that early 2024 model y AWD has the same PCS (power conversion system) model number as all non-performance Juniper vehicles made up until now. Tesla has not shared the parts manual for the new Juniper Performance yet, but once they do we can confirm if the part# for the PCS is the same: 1135558-54-A imgur.com/a/CxxEjpr
