I wish more journalists would point out that Sen. McConnell is essentially on paid sick & medical leave. The same employment protection he has spent his career blocking other Americans from having.
CSPAN@cspan

Statement From Senator Mitch McConnell WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following note to constituents regarding his hospitalization and recovery: “To my fellow Kentuckians – “When you elected me to a seventh term and made me our Commonwealth’s longest serving Senator, you did so trusting that I’d keep showing up to fight for you every day. And over the past several weeks, Elaine and I have appreciated both your well wishes and your honest questions about what was keeping me away from the Senate. “You all know how folks of my generation often hesitate to share the vulnerability that comes with growing older. Even in the public eye, I feel that same instinct – I can’t help it. “But at the same time, I’ve had more than my share of experience with physical vulnerabilities. Surviving childhood polio meant spending my entire life with mobility challenges. They haven’t exactly gotten easier to manage with age. And last month, I took a fall which landed me in the hospital. “My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion. I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital. While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia. “I can assure you that I’ve been a good patient. At my age, I tend to do what my doctors tell me to do. I’ve submitted to every test they can think of to help figure out what caused this incident. And I’m continuing to do everything they ask to speed my recovery. In fact, with signs of continued progress, I’ve been able to move from hospital care to a rehabilitation center where I’ll keep regaining my strength. “As much as it frustrates me, this process takes time. And on the advice of my doctors, I won’t be able to return to the Senate floor to vote quite yet. But rest assured that, in the meantime, I’m not taking a break from the Senate business that matters to you. I’ve been working closely with my legislative staff on current issues, and with my Kentucky team who help me provide timely constituent services across our Commonwealth. I’ve also been keeping in touch with my Senate colleagues on the appropriations process, midterm politics, and everything in between. “You’re right to expect your representatives to work hard for you. And part of my decision to retire at the end of my term this coming January was being honest about the demands of Senate work. But I still have unfinished business to complete on your behalf, and I have every intention of finishing the job you elected me to do. “I’ll keep working hard to get back on the Senate floor as soon as possible. And I’ll keep you posted on the progress of my recovery. Until then, I’m so grateful for your prayers and well wishes.” ### From the Office of the Attending Physician: “Senator McConnell has experienced several falls throughout the year that have been attributed to his post-polio condition. He was admitted to the hospital four weeks ago after falling at home and sustaining minor injuries. “A comprehensive evaluation by a multidisciplinary team determined that he had no fractures, cardiac abnormalities, stroke, tumor, or hemorrhage. Early in his hospitalization, he developed pneumonia, which responded rapidly to antibiotic treatment. “The remainder of his hospital stay focused on physical therapy and strategies to reduce his risk of future falls. He has been medically cleared to continue fully participating in his intensive physical therapy program.”

UPDATE: On the girl who made all those viral videos about Georgia Power threatening to take their home with eminent domain to expand for data centers, her family was just forced to sell to avoid eminent domain Corporations always win. They lost their home but don’t want to leave “To us, it's theft. It's literally a billion-dollar company stealing land from Smaller people, people who can't fight back. We don't have the money to fight Georgia Power.” A spokesperson from Georgia Power says faking peoples homes actually benefits everyone “Eminent domain is always, you know, a last resort for us — I would just say that we see you and we hear you and we want this process to be respectful and transparent, and that is going to ultimately benefit you” It’s literally insane, Georgia Power is actually saying that stealing your property for data centers “is going to ultimately benefit you” She won’t be the last there are over 300 homes in this area being targeted for data center power expansion

Ok hear me out: instead of all of us having to become extremely knowledgeable on a new infectious disease every 3-6 months, what if we got a large group of experts together and just put them in charge of giving us easy to understand health recommendations. They could also do things like track outbreaks and predict future concerns.

To recap, AI - Invades our privacy - Makes us dumber - Makes it harder to tell what’s real and what’s not - Weakens data security - Entrenches racial and bias in algorithms which affect hiring, policing and even prices - Results in higher utility costs - Leads to data centers poisoning water and emitting nonstop noise - Enhances and increases cybercrimes - Enables deepfakes damaging social trust - Increases issues involving addiction and mental health disorders - Adds to social isolation - Makes all electronic devices more expensive for consumers - Normalizes the theft of intellectual property - Puts people out of work and - Was used to wipe out social safety nets without oversight But, on the plus side: - Makes shareholders and billionaires richer

The most successful trick the elites ever pulled was making "Poor" a personality flaw instead of a systemic result. We live in a world where a guy who inherited $100M calls a teacher "lazy" because they can't afford rent. And half of you believe him.

“I work the front desk at a small doctor’s office, and I wish people could see what happens on the other side of the phone. Every day, older patients call us confused. They are told to use the patient portal, upload documents, check lab results online, fill out forms before the visit, and confirm everything through a link. Some of them do not know what a portal is. Some do not have a smartphone. Some have one, but they are afraid to click the wrong thing. Last week, a man in his late 80s called about his test results. He said, “Ma’am, I don’t mean to bother you, but the computer says I have a message and I don’t know how to open it.” He sounded ashamed. That broke my heart. He should not have to feel ashamed for needing a human being. Technology can be helpful. I understand that. But when people who built this country are made to feel helpless because everything became a login and a password, we have gone too far. Not everything needs to be an app. Not every answer should be hidden behind a screen. Sometimes people need a voice. A patient person. A real human who says, “Don’t worry, I can help you.” Progress should not leave seniors behind. Because one day, the world will move faster than us too. And I hope someone is kind enough to slow down. ~Unknown
