@dieworkwear can you help me understand how some floral/wild print shirts work and why some look like an outlet store clearance rack? I know it when I see it but I don’t know why.

I've done several threads on what it costs to produce a garment in the United States—fused suits ~$600, half canvassed suits ~$1,000, button-up shirts ~$150. These are not inflated margins, as I've done the cost breakdowns for you. Do you pay $150 for button-up shirts?

People assume margins in the clothing industry are super high; they are not. The fashion industry runs on glamour, but the people who work behind the scenes are poorly paid. Reason why it's hard to reshore clothing jobs is simple: ppl don't want to pay a lot for clothes
Vance Kimball@LoChuckWhitt

@dieworkwear This is short sighted BS, take a look at margins of these overseas garment producers . I grew up in NC furniture m/textile belt. These factories paid a living wage and were profitable, for some reason that’s not possible now. Please explain.

I'll tell you about turtlenecks. 🧵
Billy Kimball@ReallyKimball

@dieworkwear I’m sorry to ask an unrelated question but I have no blue check and I guess my options are limited so here goes: With a great amount of trepidation, I am thinking about buying a turtleneck for the first time in 40 years. Help me, @dieworkwear! You’re my only hope.

@dieworkwear have you gone back to Spenser for Hire for fits that you like? Seems like Robert Ulrich was well dressed in the show.

@Travis_Jamison Best weather time of year. Great shopping in SA. Drivable for them. Every store speaks Spanish. Lots of other Mexican around.

It that time of year when the entire wealthy population of Monterey Mexico relocates to the malls of San Antonio.

We said goodbye to Dexter yesterday. This was the best dog I've ever had. He would have been 15 in February.

@ChiefofMind @dieworkwear I don’t know - I like vests also(for warmth), one of the gifts that @dieworkwear has given the world is an introduction to @DavidLaneDesign as an example of how good you can look when you’re big(and affordable imo). They mentioned a store in New York he shopped at, on a podcast.

My intention is never to tell you to purchase a garment from a certain brand, and certainly not luxury brands like Tom Ford. Instead, it's to hopefully pull back the curtains and show you why some things look the way they do. I will give some examples. 🧵

@dieworkwear My only issue with dereks post is now I have to figure out how to justify the price of a tom ford suit or who does a similar cut but a bit cheaper.

IMO, the real downside of Barbour is that it can admittedly feel a bit basic. But as Albert here notes, it's classic for a reason. IG edgyalbert

Is there a legal limit on how much eggnog one can drink? (seriously, the older I get, the more I love the winter holidays.)

@dieworkwear This is why I left a “bespoke” (MTM) spot here in San Antonio disillusioned. I kept asking if details made sense together and the salesperson would respond “people buy that.” I wanted guidance when I was buying a piece that was the most expensive item in my closet.

Back in the day, a man buying custom clothes would be guided by his tailor. They would ask you: "What are you wearing the clothes for? What occasion? What climate? How hot do you run? What is your lifestyle and personality like?" It's an interview process.

Which US city are you likely to have the best luck recreating this look? New York City. Unsurprisingly, it's also the one that most closely resembles Tokyo (as compared to Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and such). Structure explains a lot.
