It's actually 1.1 million now 🤭 But in all seriousness, I am so proud of the @stripepress team and our incredible stable of authors. It’s easy to be fatalistic about the state of publishing, but there *is* an audience for books—even ones that are challenging and technical.

I think Stewart’s idea of pace layers is one of his most important: systems generally operate at multiple speeds simultaneously. He stacks civilization into six layers, from fastest to slowest: fashion, commerce, infrastructure, governance, culture, and nature. The dynamic between the layers is also v important: the fast layers are where most innovation occurs (fashion can flip in months, whereas culture tends to shift on a slower timescale).
