@curiouswavefn Love how this perfectly resonates with this quote from the Feynman Lectures itself!

I see your Mao and raise you Feynman. What a great story recounted by Ralph Leighton.

@DeakinSue1 Is that Mr. Boyd? Met him in our city last year for the knee 360 conference. Such a lovely photo!

@InVitroFuture @moultano @adam_kranz it is possible to have a free rotating axel (in one axis at a time) even with nerve connections along the way. it's surprising that evolution never made a "dirac string" equivalent joint.

@InvictaOrtho But how to fix the posterolateral part through this approach? Rim plate? Screw trajectories will be awkward I guess.

we are suffering from an epidemic of "cocktail party thought". a huge part of our country can only conceptualize the world through nice little facts and counterintuitive gotchas. they view the world like its all one big atlantic article. not a big mess of blood, flesh, and souls

@longhandnotes @shrikanth_krish How very true. Also, the canonical imagery sort of becomes the default model in your mind and you sort of try to retrofit the observation to that model. The metaphors and images are more powerful than we think.

@shrikanth_krish SJ Gould's 1995 essay "Ladders and Cones: Constraining Evolution by Canonical Icons" is on how an idiom of a pictorial kind, a 'canonical icon' like Scala Naturae, can constrain and downright distort the vision even of informed expositors. "Self determination" has become a mantra in our times. Yet this is roughly a 100-150 year old meme Originally popularized in early 20th cen by illiberal men like Vladimir Lenin and Woodrow Wilson Today we have "liberals" mouthing this cliche! Ironical

Earth's surface is in motion: earthquake faults slip, crops grow, levees crumble, glaciers retreat. A joint NASA/@ISRO radar satellite, NISAR, launched today to measure land and ice land and ice changes like these to within a fraction of an inch: go.nasa.gov/3U4uqTe
