@oscargws I had to design UI for stuff like this for injection Molding machines at one point. Surprisingly similar blend of touch and physical buttons…and hopper visualizations!

@dannyjpwilliams @figma Thanks for sharing this, will share with the team. Looks like some draggable region to make the layers panel panel easier to resize is getting in the way of the ruler. Hope we can finness this a bit!

@joshpuckett The whole auto advance sidebar to configure the product is a weird decision and doesn't even auto advance for me through the different steps. Macbook Neo page has white boxes around the text. Feels like one of the buggiest website rollouts I've seen from Apple.

There was a time—a glorious, golden age of wonder—when Apple would have taken the time to ensure this stepper had smooth, fluid transitions. I yearn for those times.

Sorry this is impacting your work. IIRC some of the reason for the max 4096 has to do with backward compatibility on older GPUs which have a max texture size and is a trade off we have made since most applications don't always need that high resolution (which also has performance benefits on a massive canvas with lots of stuff) Will definitely share with the team in case there are any plans to change this in the future. In the mean time, there are some plugins that can insert larger images and stitch them back together that may be helpful when you need the larger resolution. Not sure if this helps! figma.com/community/plug…

I am this close to cancelling my Figma subscription only for it force downsizing/mud-washing my pasted high res bitmaps. This is becoming more and more unacceptable.

Unsolicited screen recorded demo advice: If in your feature screen recording, your cursor has superfluous motion blur, is ill-timed with hover states, and pans + zooms in and out without consideration for comprehension. You lost my attention and respect.

Sorry! My bad I was more so referring to craft/taste discussions more broadly (product building/design) more so than the recruitment experience. Didn't intend to derail. Re: recruitment experience, you make excellent points, in particular the two-way evaluation; it can feel so one sided.

Invert it. What would a world class hiring experience feel like? - it would have upfront comp/location/time zone requirements - it would be clear and objective about hiring criteria and expectations - it would have same day SLAs for decisions - it would always feel like a human who truly cares is communicating with you - it would be clear upfront, and at every step, what the process is and what next steps are - it would feel like you as a candidate get to evaluate the team just as much as they evaluate you - above all, it will feel like you and your time is respected and valued. Prioritizing your needs and experience over the team’s

I wish all the design leaders talking about taste and craft would spend just a fraction of that same energy on their recruiting and hiring experiences. Seeing *way* too much tomfoolery out there while helping a few talented folks find what’s next.

@joshpuckett @ramintahbaz Speaking of examples (in a difference sense), this is often what I feel is missing from convos about craft/taste to land the plane for me. It often feels kinda high level (I can imagine what it means based on my POV, but would love to see a more tangible articulation of this)

We just released a new @figma feature I’ve been working on for a while now: inline search for library colors! You can now type directly in the hex code input to access your color variables and styles. It’s starting to rollout now, let us know what you think!

In any serious application that’s existed for a long time that it’s always been a problem - if you’re trying to iterate on top of something you start from taking screenshots of production and going from there. The “design” is created through many decisions over many years. It’s not like you have a pixel perfect Figma file of it that exists anywhere.
Tom Johnson@tomjohndesign

How could anyone bash this feature? Do you realize how long this would have taken to reproduce in @figma before?? Insane insane insane
