@Ekruteak @sean_gause every window has the same exact texture on it, they arent meant to combine to make a coherent image. That being said though, and just taking each window as its own thing, the dresser does kinda ruin the effect, I wonder if you could do a second parallax texture for it?

Here's a better idea of how parallax can be used to fake interiors in games

@Ekruteak @sean_gause It seems to be shown working well at oblique angles, Is your criticism that it wouldn't show a wall to the left or right?

@sean_gause The illusion breaks at oblique angles, but I still love this effect.

@sean_gause @itrue98 Fucking gamers man. Always showing how stupid they are about shit they don't understand. These two things aren't even mutually exclusive. We use cube maps to fake our real interiors that you can also go inside of why would we leave the real actors loaded in the world.

@MizoChris For a device which effectively uses budget laptop or even Chromebook grade hardware? Anything over $700 will be huge yikes

Steam Machine Pricing, overpriced or overpriced? • rumor back in May 10th points above $1,000 ($1,167) • This is closer to a compact SteamOS gaming PC also with various models • Steam library access and ecosystem flexibility are the selling points if pricing climbs too high, people will start comparing it to custom PCs What are you willing to spend?

@josethevrtech When the steam frame is released Valve will have made more headsets than actual games (unless you count the vive already). We need software.

I hope everyone learns ASAP that Steam Frame runs on Arch Linux for ARM (aarch64) without much restriction (other than compute), and nearly all the popular “mainstream” flatpaks (apps) are already available in the built-in KDE store, (including ones in the screenshot).
Matteo311@matteo311

I recently discussed why I'm so hyped for the Steam frame but we need to address the elephant in the room, WE STILL NEED NEW SOFTWARE! The type of software we need is up for debate though Click here - youtu.be/RQXXWCLmuJM

@BenLiddicott @DJSnM That's- Sad. Hypotheticals engage the brain. It's fine if you dont want to worry about it, just like it's fine if you dont want to exercise it, but it's a sad thing to promote.

it's always an option to "reject the hypo" - we can always say, "that's silly and not worth my time to consider" There was a Wondermark.com cartoon about "Weasel insurance". (I can't find it now, but the premise is specialist insurance for weasel, stoat and other mustelid incidents). Can you afford not to have it at only $9.99 per year? Once you consider the question, of course, it's difficult to quantify the risk of a Weasel incident! And you can insure against it for the low, low price of $9.99 per year! What price, peace of mind? Or, you can just say - "that's too silly to even think about" In short: The answer to this question is a swift elbow to the molars. It's a silly scenario, and anyone who asks the question even half seriously deserves a trip to the dentist.

@En_daichi @fresh_newman @higureshuuen I do not consider it theft. I put my digital projects out into the world in hopes that people copy them, and use them to grow and learn. It is not a zero sum game anymore.

@nelo390 @fresh_newman @higureshuuen It’s just that, much like how ‘in Japan, a lost wallet is returned to its owner’, they take ‘theft’ very seriously. They also regard the unauthorised copying of digital data as ‘theft’.

@En_daichi @fresh_newman @higureshuuen Yes, the law requires that you follow the law. And breaking the law induces some hesitation in me, depending on the circumstances. But if it's not hurting anyone, like riding my bike in an empty street or riding an electric scooter, fuck the laws made by old guys paid by corpo's

@nelo390 @fresh_newman @higureshuuen Circumstances may differ in your country, but in a state governed by the rule of law, citizens are required to abide by the law, and any amendments to the law should be proposed to the legislature.

@fresh_newman @En_daichi @higureshuuen WHY NOT?? The law does not determine what is okay. It is the best approximation that the government system does, with all of its bureaucracy and bias. I will not strictly follow this law, because it is not always what is right.

@aristomarinetti Animals do not breed in captivity. Did you know that? What would human captivity look like? Would it look like cutting off large masses on their body of pleasure nerve endings? Would it look like never being able to legally own a home? Paying taxes to foreign countries?

@nelo390 @kaimicahmills @AubyPiper With something that's fully developed, that makes sense. When you're talking about developing something from nothing to full-grown adult? Yeah, you need hormones that I'm very sure are not synthesized.

the ultimate solution is through technology we engineer what has been called a bodyoid: brainless animal bodies that provide as much meat as we desire without harming any sentient beings this would transform medicine - the same platform would allow us to grow organs on demand, eliminate transplant waiting lists, and produce perfectly matched tissues for each patient experimental therapies could be tested on full biological systems without involving conscious animals, regenerative medicine would accelerate as entire replacement tissues become manufacturable in the same way that agriculture turned food from a scarce resource into an abundant one, engineered bodyoids would turn biological material into infrastructure - meat without slaughter, organs without donors, and medical research without sentient suffering

Hidden on page 744 of the farm bill the House Agriculture Committee passed Thursday is a provision that would condemn millions of pigs to a lifetime in gestation crates. Rebranded the 'Save Our Bacon Act,' it's a pork-industry play to wipe out every state law banning the sale of pork from crated pigs — laws the conservative Supreme Court upheld in 2023. Over 85% of Democrats and Republicans oppose these crates. Voters have backed ballot measures to ban them in state after state. The pork industry knows it can't win a straight vote on this. So it's burying the provision in an 800-page bill and hoping no one notices. Contact your senators and representative today and tell them: oppose the farm bill unless the Save Our Bacon Act is stripped out. You can reach them at senate.gov and house.gov — it takes two minutes and it matters.
