Chose to live in Swindon without a car. Joined a running group, cycled to work, used the buses. Watched the town deteriorate, now have to commute to other towns

For all of this century it’s always been easier for young folks to find work in the UK than in the EU, where youth unemployment rates were consistently higher than UK. It explains why so many young, educated, ambitious Europeans flocked to the UK to work, much to our mutual benefit. These days are over. Britain’s youth unemployment rate has risen above Europe’s for the first time: unemployment among 16 to 24-year-olds jumped to 15.3% in the three months to September, surpassing the EU’s rate of 15pc, according to the OECD. It marks the first time youth unemployment in Britain has been higher than in the bloc since records began in 2000. Labour policies — especially pushing up the minimum wage too much — are to blame. Even the Bank of England says minimum wage increases for pricing young people out of work. But raising national insurance contributions has also crippled many industries that employed young folks. Thanks Starmer-Reeves. Another fine success story.

It’s official: @lyft and @Baidu_Inc are bringing AVs to London 🇬🇧 Riders across the city will be the first in the region to experience Baidu’s Apollo Go vehicles. We expect to start testing our initial fleet with dozens of vehicles next year - pending regulatory approval - through the Lyft and Freenow ecosystem, with plans to scale to hundreds from there. (Details ⬇️) - Baidu is the world’s largest AV operator with 17M+ cumulative rideshare rides, 22 cities globally - 240M+ km of autonomous driving, and 140M+ km completed in fully driverless mode - Fully-electric RT6 vehicles, purpose-built for rideshare Our hybrid network - AVs and drivers working together - will serve all of London’s travel needs. We’re working closely with Transport for London regulators and local communities to expand the rideshare market and create more opportunities for everyone. More to come, but can’t wait to see the future of mobility arrive in one of the world’s greatest cities.
