So here’s the elephant in the room. 🐘 Was told this week by someone who works in the tv media space that the drop off of viewers in the final 30 to 40 mins of #NRL telecasts each week now significant, and in some instances at alarming levels. The blow out results and touch footy shit style of game turning people off, literally. All for one more try and tv commercial more on average than last yr. Major concern for both media opps is that in many instances a game is a lead into a major revenue show (like news bulletin or Matt Johns Show, etc) and so they in now so many instances they also now getting big drop off numbers. Getting 9 tries a game and a few more commercials won’t mean jack shit in the future if the second half of your coverage is in free fall and your audience lead ins to key network shows plummeting. We’ve let the tv and NRL game execs break down the original, traditional fabric of the game.

@NeilEvansmail @telegraph_sport @NRL Wow that's a turn around of opionion. People were saying the PNG team was a joke and the Bears were a good choice. I think both will both be a success!

Perth are losing the PR battle to the Chiefs - the war could soon follow. If the Bears fail to wake from hibernation, the $6 million sponsorship golden goose the franchise keeps spruiking will mean nothing. Story ➡️ bit.ly/4uhlgCY

@LeagueFreak After watching the blues play the first half we can not call this elite. Until the quality changes it will always been an after thought. Upton seems to be the only player who can play, or wants to play for that matter.

Elite Women’s Rugby League in Australia is being scheduled around what is best for the men’s game. That is not good enough. The women’s season shouldn’t be an afterthought. The women’s game needs an independent administration. #RugbyLeague #NRL

@chadtownsend10 @DaveRic1 And yet, not one word has been said about the Wahs on NRL360 this week nor the record breaking crowd of 35k in Wellington on ANZAC day. I find that incredible considering rugby union is the dominant code.

@LambrettaGP1971 @FanaticsNrl There’s a difference. Aust. stadium spend is public infrast. for multi use, used by taxpayers who fund it. The PNG funds isn’t standard aid or shared infrastructure but strategic inv. on top of the aid already given to PNG. It’s foreign policy via sport.

@niest @FanaticsNrl I know, but we're still benefiting from Govt spending. How do we draw the line? This Govt spending on Rugby League is fine, but that Government spending on Rugby League isn't? Does the PNG spend suddenly become OK if their Govt builds facilities that their soccer team uses?

Unpopular opinion. But the fact the NRL is helping the PNG team. By favouring them with the Aussie Taxpayers funds. Just shows already what a joke this really is. Why should they be given privileges. Look at other NRL teams. They didn’t have to go to the government to ask for money to help build a team.

@LambrettaGP1971 @FanaticsNrl The new stadiums are not for the sole benefit of rugby league. Rugby union, soccer and any other use of the ground including concerts will or / have used the grounds for the benefit of everyone. Govt spending is benefit of paying taxes - to provide for their taxpayers!

@FanaticsNrl The Roosters and now Souths benefited from tax payers money with a brand new stadium. $1 billion. Penrith are having a new stadium built using taxpayers dollars. The Bulldogs use Accor. Sure these clubs pay rent but they've all benefited from Govt spending

@Brendanlowe9 @FanaticsNrl @bartplays Yes an excellent question and one that can be answered with a simple internet search on why the Australian government is funding them and what happens if they stop funding them within the agreed time period. You must live under a rock.

@the_real_flea I mean seriously what other option was there to visit a professional rugby outfit? The waratahs? No wonder they chose a NRL club instead.

BREAKING: A new review has confirmed that the NDIS has been systematically infiltrated by organised crime groups using threats of violence against disabled people. For the love of God, just nationalise the scheme - completely rip out all the fraudsters by just shutting down the NDIS private markets. This is a disaster. The current design of the scheme is a catastrophe and unfixable. You just cannot run disability welfare as a private market like this

Smaller crowds in places like Darwin are worth it because they’re unique customers. We play in far more different cities/regions than the fumblers every year. #NRLDolphinsPanthers

Just had an incredibly compelling half an hour with Andrew Abdo. Lots of news lines to come but bottom line is right now: no offer has been made to invest in Super League yet. Next few weeks crucial but all moving the right way. Hinges on clubs ceding control

@sandylanceley @SteveMascord Is there a reference u have to confirm the $150 mill was approved for pacific island rah rahs. At this stage its just a request I thought and a threat to get funding from China

@SteveMascord @Piffster No it hasn't been pledged to the pacific nations for funding of rugby union pathways as yet. At this stage it is a request only ...unless of course u have a source to confirm it has.

@BM_Howard @SteveMascord Completely agree! You would have to think as well that the benefits will extend to other sports because every player is not going to make the NRL and the rahs rahs would get some of these athletes as an overflow.

@SteveMascord Having set up the NRL's programs & offices in PNG, also working in sport for development across the region for over 15 years, the determining factor is the good it can do & the difference it can make in the lives of individuals & communities - with the Chiefs & RL as the vehicle.

I am in favour of PNG Chiefs because I don't think the NRL could turn down all that government money. All other arguments for and against completely valid but that's the determining factor for me.

The biggest waste of space, time and money from the @VFL is the Western Sydney Midgets. The dollar figure is a lot more than the article says. And as those of us born, bred & living in Western Sydney knew it was never going to work. Fudged crowd & member numbers & this. GCS too.
