This has been ongoing for like a week now. The Strait of Hormuz was opened for 12 hours or so and is closed again. You can't trust anything anyone says and we have no good reporting on any of it. Hard to believe it's over.

There's a timeline in which the Iran War never happened, the Strait of Hormuz was never closed, and I spent the past two months doing really interesting niche data work on US refineries, light-heavy crude balances, and tracking the post-Maduro recovery of Venezuela's oil industry.

@CRUDEOIL231 If it is the beginning of normalisation it is better this way. Agree on your points - pick up won't be immediate and beginning of rampup of production is further away. The inventory based thesis will play out anyway - we will make money.
But we also might avoid the catastrophe.

Guys, if the precondition is "cooperation with the IRGC and Iranian authorities" and "transiting only through Iranian-designated lanes," that’s not a reopening in any real sense.
The shipowners I’ve been in contact with say they’re going to wait and see. I expect to see a partial recovery in traffic, but of course it will be "limited" too.

I don’t know who these guys are, but their Substack is the best one I’ve seen. They cover all angles: bear, bull, and their own. Somehow, they keep producing these gigantic research papers, as if they have an army of analysts working for them. Kudos.
