We were protesting outside @busboysandpoets yesterday, holding a sign that said “+40,000 people were killed by Islamic Republic in two days,” while Max Blumenthal was inside spreading the Iranian regime’s filthy lies.

The MENA immigrants who work at the Loews Regency, the hotel that the Netanyahus stay at when they come to NY, should not have to give service to an accused war criminal who is killing and torturing their relatives in Gaza, West Bank and Lebanon. They shoudn't have to cook and deliver his food, change his dirty sheets or wash his soiled underwear. The Loews Regency is a union hotel. The union that represents the hotel staff is @NYHTC which is a part of the AFL-CIO @NYSAFLCIO . Since NY has one of the largest populations of MENA immigrants of any city in the country - and many hotel workers are MENA immigrants themselves - the union needs to protect its workers from any harm they may incur from being made to serve the Netanyahus if they stay at the Regency or any other union hotel in the city. The emotional trauma for workers knowing that they are servicing this monster is real. A monster who's military shoots Palestinian babies in the head, burns teenagers alive, targets and kills aid workers delivering food in Gaza, protects crazed settlers as they enact pogroms throughout West Bank villages, and has created more child amputees than any other nation in history. Unions have a responsibility to their members and the City of New York has a responsibility to its residents. I also encourage @NYCMayor to task his Department of Consumer and Worker Protection with reviewing this matter immediately and guarantee the protection of the emotional health and well being of the workers in the hotel which Benjamin Netanyahu will be staying - and to consider the emotional health and safety of the 12,000 NYC residents who work at the UN where he will be speaking - many of them MENA immigrants as well - as well as the thousands of NYPD who will be asked to provide security during his stay. The city may not have the legal authority to arrest the war criminal, but it does have a sworn responsibility to protect its residents and workers from a man whose racist rhetoric and violent behavior has resulted in the deaths of countless adults and children in Palestine, Lebanon and Iran and whose actions have resulted in an ICC warrant for his arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity. I ask that both Mayor Mamdani and the leaders of the AFL-CIO in NY and the NYHTC publicly address this issue and state what measures they are taking to protect the wotkers and residents of New York City during Benjamin Netanyahu's stay in September.

Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.

Mamdani just spent several minutes detailing Netanyahu’s alleged war crimes before saying he has no authority to arrest him and leaves the matter to the federal government. Fine. Then use every power the mayor does have. Don’t roll out the red carpet for a wanted war criminal. Don’t use the NYPD to insulate him from public outrage. Don’t suppress the New Yorkers who take to the streets demanding accountability. If Netanyahu is truly not welcome in New York City, that principle should be reflected in how the city treats his visit, not just in rhetoric.
