@zeynepmyenisey "And this is why we have to DoorDash 60 dollars worth of food each meal." This is the most ridiculous criticism of food prep I've ever heard.

I cook and pack almost all my food. I almost never go out to eat. I worked overtime for years until my boots were worn flat. I drive a car from 2005. I save and invest almost all of my money. I have never used Doordash. I still can't afford a home.

Boomers and Gen X packed lunches. Not sure why this stuff enrages zoomers. Boomers lived frugally. Going out to lunch was a big deal. Most didn't have long lunch breaks, especially blue collar. You didn't DoorDash, dinners were made at home. I don't even DoorDash in 2026.

Sometimes being a good parent means signing your kid out of school with a "serious" face... while hiding two Cubs doubleheader tickets in your pocket. They won't remember the math lesson that day, but they'll remember the hot dogs, the crowd, and how you broke the rules just enough to make life feel big. That's the stuff that sticks forever. ⚾️😃

So, aaaaages ago, I was anti-gun. Changed my mind over time by talking to people. One of them was a guy who left a gay bar with his partner, and got smoked in the back of the head with a brick. Woke up to his partner getting the boots. Pulled his gun and suddenly the aggressors discovered the merits of peaceful dialogue and deescalation. A baton wouldn't have done shit for either of them.
they/them might be giants ☭@babadookspinoza

FYI: collapsible batons are much cheaper than guns, don’t need licensure and are a lot less of an escalation simply to draw but are scary enough to deter and extend your reach by >1’ if not. I got my Smith & Wesson for $50. Break their legs and run! (Check legality in your area.)

We need to talk about The Game. The Game could have been SO good. Rich guy can buy anything he wants. Completely bored of life. He's experienced every thrill he can buy. And there exists a service, that can analyze his entire psyche, and design a psychological game UNIQUELY tailored for him, that thrills him perfectly in every way, in a way that nothing he could buy could ever. The objective of the game? Figure out the game. What an INCREDIBLE premise. You could do SO much with this film. And the movie starts off SO STRONGLY. The tests, the main character's incredulity at the whole idea of the game, all of it worked perfectly. Also Michael Douglas was perfectly cast. But then it devolves into an any given action movie with plot holes and a final scene as absurd as could possibly be. They need to remake this movie. It could be great. Completely squandered potential.

One time in middle school, we had this substitute teacher that we absolutely ragged on. He was gentle, older, and wore tweed. We thought we were so funny being little jerks to him. 5 years later, I saw him pruning hedges outside a tidy little house near the town landing. My heart sunk, remembering how rotten we were to this elderly gentleman who clearly was just trying to keep busy in his retirement and give back. I'm sure he's dead now, and the hedges are gone. But whenever I drive past that house, I think of him. I'm sorry, sir. May you rest in peace.

This scene was like a very early spiritual awakening to me when I was 7. Even as a little boy, I began to understand that life is basically a Grail quest, and I needed to start studying the lore if I was going to be serious about it.
