Android developers can sideload apps again — but with plastic surgery.
Google walked back their plan to block sideloading entirely. But now you need to enable the advanced flow manually:
1. Developer mode on
2. Confirm you're not being coached by a scammer
3. Restart phone + reauthenticate
4. Wait 24 hours
5. Biometric auth
6. Tap install anyway
Only then can you sideload indefinitely.
This is a win for Obtainium users but still more friction than before. The "Advanced Flow" blocks coerced installs during scam calls but adds legitimate friction.
Power users retain the ability. Beginners still mostly can't. As they should.

⚡️ Cake Wallet integrates Lightning Network in self-custodial mode
@cakewallet has announced the integration of the Lightning Network into its mobile wallet, powered by @Breez_Tech SDK and Spark. The update allows users to make instant Bitcoin payments without managing a Lightning node, while maintaining self-custody and privacy by default.
The company developed a custom implementation of the Spark suite specifically to strengthen user privacy. According to Cake Wallet, Lightning transactions do not embed the Spark address in invoices, and transaction data is not published to public explorers by default, limiting unnecessary exposure of user activity.
Seth for Privacy, COO of Cake Wallet, stated: "Lightning shouldn't require users to sacrifice privacy or custody just to get speed." Vikrant Sharma, CEO of Cake Labs, added: "With Breez and Spark, Lightning finally reaches a point where it can be fast and intuitive without turning bitcoin into an IOU or giving up control."
The update also introduces user interface improvements and Birdpay, a new feature that allows users to send cryptocurrency to X.com accounts via username.
