@TactisquatchOG You would ask me if I changed the bale size or baler? Rather than remember you had been told by 2 or 3 different people that the ground needs to be fertilized? Also that the year hasn't been the best for hay production.... everyone I talk to is down on yield 🤷

@TactisquatchOG So you own 20 acres ask me to cut, rake, and bale the hay on it. Last year was a good hay year for 1st cutting 56 bales. 2nd cutting I got 15 as we had no rain. This year was crap with early warm up and then hard frost followed by high temps and no rain, got 36 this year.

@LujackSama Hay was already there when he bought the property. He doesn't have the ability to plant another crop let alone harvest the hay.

Oh no I have it on good authority you can pull from a field forever and it will endlessly reproduce don't you know?? Heard it from a guy on tiktok! But seriously, if he did a soil test to see what he's missing and top dress that he'd be getting much better returns, or test the hay for mineral content and see what it needs, or wait for a non drought year, but that's all too reasonable, way easier just to blame the baler. Sorry that guys an idiot, lots of those with land these days.

@ThePsychZach Hay was the crop in the ground when this guy bought it.He has limited farming knowledge & zero equipment. Pretty sure no other farmers in the area will work with him now,he tried to get all of us to bid against each other last year when he took possession. It ended badly for him

@normandecattle Does leaving the ground to fallow for a year help at all with hay? Not an ag guy at all, so excuse my ignorance. And why hay over any other crop?

@Mesto_Pisek @ThePsychZach What @Mesto_Pisek said. But if he doesn't get the sale of the hay.......he loses on his investment. Pretty sure the old owner fed him bad information about how many bales he was getting each cutting but I don't know that for sure.

@ThePsychZach @normandecattle You don't want to completely leave it alone or you'll have tons of weeds. Mowing the grass will return the nutrients from the cut pieces back to the soil but nowhere near the rates of fertilizer.

@walker_farm He tried that with other farmers in the area. It was fairly rundown when he got it and no one actually needed it so he got like $20/acre offers. He got mad, upset farmers after bitching at them for low rent prices and ended with me as I was only 1 willing to deal with him.

@normandecattle I refuse to pay per bale. it's per acre. and that's usual here. some years you win, some years I win....... but truely, none of it is in my control..............

@normandecattle Just harvested 190 where they usually get 100-125. They put out lime this year and that's it.

@HariSel84821729 This is my 2nd year cutting this hay. 2 cuttings last year. This was 1st cutting. Last year's 2nd was 15 bales.

@jeff72650 Nothing has changed in my system of cutting,raking, or bailing hay. If anything my old ass equipment probably gave him more bales than was actually there.

@parkerjbanks I am in West Michigan. Last year was a decent year here. We had a good spring but then dried off for the rest of the summer. This year we had several late frosts that set thing back.

@normandecattle We probably live far apart, but last year was great with a continuous dump of rain. This year, winter was late in leaving and it's been pretty dry all summer long. Way less coming out of the garden.

@GimmeYaSheckles That's the way I read the text he sent me.....in reality we warmed up early, followed that with 3 or more hard frosts and then got hit with no rain for a month and super high temps. Add in the fact that the ground hasn't been fed in a while and here we are.
