@notcorry Also Japanese people aren't pronouncing コンピューターlike "computer" bc the sound doesn't exist in Japanese, but they picked the closest sounds they do have. English speakers have closer sounds than the ones they use for many Jpn words, they just decided to say whatever instead
日本語

it's basically the same reason japanese speakers might struggle with distinguishing l/r...
Kuuhaku@Kuuhaku3993
I don't get why English speakers struggle so much with the "tsu" sound. It's literally the same as in the word "sports". It's not like they pronounce it "spors" like how they say "soonami"

@notcorry If you’re paying £6+ for a pint you rightfully own the glass
English

@notcorry @zephyrLuvU "Tsunami" is a basic word in everyone's vocabulary
English

@joinus_yaruo i’m not mocking anyone? that was a totally value-neutral statement
English

it's very interesting that people who cant even pronounce tsunami and tokyo correctly are mocking us for not distinguishing between L and R

@Honyeol which english words begin with that sound?
the context of a sound within a word is actually super important when it comes to pronunciation
yeah the sound technically exists, but we’re not putting it at the start of words - so it ends up being difficult & unnatural to pronounce
English

@notcorry but it’s NOT unfamiliar akssjsjjska it’s a sound that is very much present in every day conversation
English

the way you're wrong

@Eagleowl1625 @kdotpearlsht i’m not trying to save face?
i’ve agreed the whole time that the specific causes different, i intentionally made a very loose comparison
i don’t dispute that the difficulty is different, it’s just not the point i was making
not really sure what response you’re looking for?
English

@notcorry @kdotpearlsht Look, it's clear you're not really capable of discussing this beyond a desperate attempt to save face, why even bother?
English

@notcorry you compared them by making the claim that it was “basically the same” in your original tweet. are you a linguist? i don’t think you know what you’re talking about.
English

@notcorry It isn't by default, but it can be, case by case. I'm very certain we're both aware of this, seeing as we're both human and have lived.
English

it shouldn't cost them anything?
unless people are stealing unbranded glasses...
Good Morning Britain@GMB
A survey has revealed that 35% of Brits admit taking a glass home from the pub in the past year. And it's costing landlords more than a £130 million pounds to replace them. We sent Philip Sime to the pub to find out more.

@Eagleowl1625 @kdotpearlsht if you’re talking about scale of difficulty, sure, but i wasn’t doing that 😅
English

@notcorry @kdotpearlsht But a wildly disproportionate comparison
English

@Eagleowl1625 @kdotpearlsht “novel pronunciation can be difficult” is the reason i was referring to
English

@kdotpearlsht @notcorry Similar in the sense that all novel pronunciation can be difficult, but the reason (unfamiliar phonotactics vs completely new phones) is distinct
English

@notcorry @Kat_Says_Stuff This is possibly the best thing you could've said to ragebait me, you honestly almost had me I had an entire paragraph written up. Well played
English

@notcorry i'm sorry, but it's still not the same. if people can pronounce the 'ts' in pots, costs, lots, etc. it doesn't matter if the consonants are at the end of the word. even amateur beatboxers make the same sound (called an open hi-hat) on a regular basis.
English

@TheoriesDudu @Kat_Says_Stuff who cares? we’re all people & none of this matters… why not be kind
English

@Kat_Says_Stuff @notcorry Let's not pretend we're both stupid here. First tweet clearly implies all pubs pay for all glasses and always have done. Second tweet lowers that to your personal experience and an uncertain anecdote that you BELIEVE chains pay for them. You contradicted yourself, a lie.
