The required fuel price revision has been done (with a delay), the QR system was implemented (also with a delay), and proper gas and electricity price revisions still need to be carried out. I think the government has to react to both internal and external factors much faster than this. There is an inherent slowness in the state, but it needs to be reduced. Whatever was said while in opposition can be ignored—what needs to be done now must be done. Socialist concepts are nice and attractive, but not practical for a country like us. We are a country with limited resources and no strong product base to offer. Therefore, we need to integrate properly with the global economy to run smoothly

I think, considering the increase in fuel prices, the Government has to consider increasing fuel prices by at least 10% without even waiting until next month to adjust for the losses. The same has to be done for the electricity bill as well. If the PUCSL mechanism is delaying the process, the necessary laws have to be passed to mitigate or even bypass them. The QR system has to be re-implemented to maintain proper distribution. This has to be done within this week if the Government can foresee things in advance.

Sinopec has announced a significant increase in fuel prices in Sri Lanka, with steep hikes for Octane 95 petrol and Super Diesel. According to the revision, the price of Octane 95 petrol has been increased by Rs. 122 per litre to Rs. 487, while Super Diesel has been raised by Rs. 219 per litre to Rs. 572. In comparison, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has set the price of Octane 95 at Rs. 455 and Super Diesel at Rs. 443, creating a notable gap of Rs. 32 and Rs. 129 respectively between the two suppliers. Meanwhile, Lanka IOC has said it will maintain fuel prices in line with CPC rates. Sinopec has kept prices for Octane 92 petrol and Auto Diesel unchanged, aligning them with CPC pricing for those categories. (Newswire)
