@LucasBotkin @Tekeee And ammo. My sources say ammo is about to go up.

@SouthsideTilly If someone commits adultery, we use the term adulterer. If someone commits theft, we use the term thief. So, when a woman abuses and mistreats her husband, what term should we use?

🧵1/ : I was explaining to my parents the book I'm reading (the latest by @DavidEdgington) b/c they've done marital & pre-marital counseling for couples for a/b 15 years, so it's relevant. I mentioned that the book addresses how counselors will not deal w/ the sin of women.

@nsxanders Just popularizing the term "reviling wife" is letting women down. Because anything & everything is going to be called reviling. I hope women run from any church uses that term.

The one time the ESV had a really based take on a translation they changed it back to their previously innocuous rendering within 4 years.
Zachary Garris@ZacharyGarris
What a lousy translation by the ESV (taken from the RSV): “So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But your *friends* be like the sun as he rises in his might.” (Judges 5:31) Every other English version follows the literal Hebrew, “those who love you”—not “your friends.”

@DaviSeeingLight I am thankful that in the handful of cases I have personally seen play out, the session/presbytery got it right in all 4 cases in which the Church was involved. I can't imagine what life would be like for those men if the elders overseeing them had whiffed.

@Donuvir Well, I'm calculating what we have now as the baseline. But your point is fair and taken.

Thanks for your post. Glad you’re reading David’s book, but I think the problem is already here- we do have “reviling wives in spades”. This is why the % of women initiating divorce is 70%. 90% if you take the subset of educated women. We also have White Knights in spades, and although I agree there’s no real courage to it (ie they are cowards) - they do have real opponents - God and the husband. For it is the husband they are siding against, and it is God’s ordering that they are overturning.

@benotero @DavidEdgington It's so true. Father's Day sermons berate men. Mother's Day sermons coddle women. (Not that we should actually be doing topical sermons on those days at all, but you get the point)
English

@nsxanders @DavidEdgington Oh man, you've hit on something that I've felt pretty strongly about for a while. The way the church and society in general addresses men and women is so unbelievably disparate. My daughter recently noticed the chasm in a sermon on marriage. Kiddie gloves for women.
