@derekradney GA leans South because the PCA is Southern born: ~59% of churches, ~65% of members, ~69% of giving. And even set Florida aside and the South is still about half our churches and a clear majority of members. Southern roots spreading nationwide; no surprise it looks Southern.

I was given GA2026 commissioner registration data today, which demonstrates my point below. GA does not reflect the PCA numerically or geographically. It heavily represents the South. Of the top 10 presbyteries represented, only 1 is not in the South (Great Lakes), or 2 if you exclude Florida from the South.
Derek Radney@derekradney

Many forget or don’t understand that the votes of a PCA G.A., Twitter/X, & overtures submitted to the G.A. do not give an accurate representation of what PCA elders believe/want, rather, a better reflection is the votes of presbyteries on measures sent down from G.A.

@nsxanders My ranking changed with every read. And you are correct, that opening line to Voyage of the Dawn Treader is hilarious. And Lewis's description of Eustace's school is a great lead-in to the Abolition of Man.

We both ranked it low, but Prince Caspian has THE best opening line in the entire series. "His name was Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it." Correction: Dawn Treader begins this way, and Joe likes it way more than I do.
Joe Cristman@JoeCristman

My Narnia Rankings: 1. The Last Battle 2. Voyage of Dawn Treader 3. Silver Chair 4. The Lion, witch, wardrobe 5. Horse and His Boy 6. Prince Caspian 7. Magician’s Nephew All 7 books are excellent, 5-star books.

100 people showed up to a hearing to oppose a Buc-ee's in Greenwood, Indiana. Only 4 spoke in favor. It was approved.

@physicsgeek With their fracking ban they can't tap the Marcellus shale, and existing regulatory hurdles on new pipelines, AI data centers are already de facto banned .

@fandompulse It's a weird take on LHotP, which is rather feminine and domestic. Pa's usually the only man around, and he's hardly "riding around with guns and solving problems with violence and posturing." He hunts but he's quite pacific and easy-going.

Little House on the Prairie showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine on why she rebuilt the frontier classic around a new lens: "I think a lot of our pop culture portrays the West as men riding around with guns and solving problems with violence and posturing, but that is just not how it was settled... We really are trying to do a show that does not fall back on tropes of sort of masculinity." Is a story about settling the American frontier supposed to avoid masculinity?

@BunyansTopGuy @bendellwerry And it's the key to the movie's success. I saw in the theater, and on the WAY HOME made a visit to Wherehouse Music to buy the soundtrack. Never occurred to me to do that before or after. It might have grabbed a few concepts from The Odyssey, but it's not really an adaptation.

This isn’t really about what Bethel says here but her post made me think of it. Brother Where Art Thou is actually incredibly subversive and opposes almost every theme of The Odyssey and virtue of its characters, but because they dressed it up right, everyone loved it.
Bethel McGrew@BMcGrewvy

The more I hear about Nolan's Odyssey, the more ingenious the Coen Brothers look: Full transplant to a wholly fresh setting and vernacular, full commitment. Not this uncanny valley neither-nor.

@CrisAZelaya Yes it was. And a clear flop as well. This is the first time I've watched soccer with any real interest, and all the crying, whining, and flopping have ensured it will be the last time as well.

I read the hobbit out loud to my five year old son recently. Tolkien’s writing so synced with the way children process information that I’d mentally prepare an aside to explain something AND THE NEXT SENTENCE WOULD COVER THE EXACT THING I WAS PLANNING TO EXPLAIN
pete@pete_churchill

@bazashc Have you ever read it??? It’s 100% not a children’s book and whoever says that is lying to you. Not only is the vernacular dated and elaborate but the sentence structure and lengthy writing is often hard to get your head around as an adult. Love that book! but it’s not for kids

@MrReginaldC @PrefShares It's because we have top tier (real) football. An expensive football program plus Title IX = LOTS of women's sports as an offset. It's why Auburn has a women's equestrian program. It's why I'm trying to convince my daughter to take up fencing...and my son to hit the books

@JoshuaBarzon Almost since the beginning. Am a descendent of a Jamestown colonist (although not one of the originals -- my ancestor came over in 1621). Also discovered last year that my wife is a descendent of one of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower, so my children are descendants of both.

There is an inherent tension in all this. Young conservatives are converting to Catholicism, talking hard on things like immigration - meanwhile the Pope encourages migration at Lampedusa. This feels more like conservatives joining a team than joining a church as it really is.

@PunishedRWR Tbh, if you asked the average American who is still in it, most wouldn’t know. We only watched because of love of country, not love of soccer. American viewership will drop off dramatically since USA is out.

@CaptainCons Title IX doesn’t work in reverse…USA was the first country to heavily invest in women’s athletics. Our women’s team were pioneers—one of the first elite programs in their sport. The men have a different hill to climb.
