Cheetahs cross half-century 🐆 A moment of great pride for Project Cheetah as Jwala, the Namibian Cheetah and a successful third-time mother, gave birth to five cubs today at the Kuno National Park. With this birth, the number of Indian-born thriving cubs has risen to 33, marking the 10th successful cheetah litter on Indian soil—another important milestone in India’s cheetah conservation journey. This achievement reflects the dedicated efforts, skill, and commitment of the veterinarians, field staff and all involved who continue to work tirelessly on the ground. With the arrival of these cubs, the total cheetah population in India has now reached 53. A historic and heart-warming moment for wildlife conservation. May Jwala and her cubs grow strong and race ahead, carrying India’s cheetah story to even greater heights.

Located at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, ✨Manas Tiger Reserve✨ in Assam was first notified as a wildlife sanctuary in 1928, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1973, and later inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It takes its name from the Manas River (named after the Hindu snake god Manasa ), which flows from Bhutan into India, carving a landscape of floodplains, grasslands, and evergreen forests. Its forests range from tropical semi-evergreen and moist deciduous to riverine grasslands- habitats that sustain an astonishing diversity: tigers, elephants, rhinos, wild water buffalo, golden langurs, clouded leopards, and the world’s last remaining population of wild pygmy hogs. Manas is also a Biosphere Reserve, Elephant Reserve, and Important Bird Area. ✨Sariska Tiger Reserve✨, named after the Sariska region in Alwar district of Rajasthan, was once used as a hunting ground by the royal family of Alwar. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and later designated a tiger reserve in 1978. The reserve stretches across the rugged Aravalli hills and features dry deciduous and scrub forests, rocky terrain, and grasslands, making it a dry-zone habitat for tigers. It is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including tigers, leopards, striped hyenas, jungle cats, and the elusive rusty-spotted cat. The nearby Siliserh Lake further enriches the ecosystem, supporting crocodiles and attracting many migratory birds. In addition to its rich biodiversity, the reserve also protects several historical and cultural landmarks, making Sariska a unique blend of wildlife, history, and culture. ✨सरिस्का टाइगर रिज़र्व✨ का नाम राजस्थान के अलवर जिले के सरिस्का क्षेत्र के नाम पर रखा गया है। पहले यह अलवर के राजघराने का शिकार स्थल था। वर्ष 1955 में इसे वन्यजीव अभयारण्य घोषित किया गया और 1978 में इसे टाइगर रिजर्व का दर्जा मिला। यह रिजर्व अरावली पहाड़ियों के ऊबड़-खाबड़ क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है। यहाँ सूखे पर्णपाती और झाड़ीदार जंगल, पथरीली भूमि और घास के मैदान पाए जाते हैं, जो इसे बाघों के लिए एक शुष्क क्षेत्र का आवास बनाते हैं। यहाँ बाघ, तेंदुआ, धारीदार लकड़बग्घा, जंगल कैट और दुर्लभ रस्‍टी-स्पॉटेड कैट जैसे कई वन्यजीव पाए जाते हैं। पास में स्थित सिलीसेढ़ झील इस क्षेत्र की जैव विविधता को और समृद्ध बनाती है। इस झील में मगरमच्छ पाए जाते हैं और यहाँ कई प्रवासी पक्षी भी आते हैं। समृद्ध वन्यजीवों के साथ-साथ यहाँ कई ऐतिहासिक और सांस्कृतिक स्थल भी संरक्षित हैं, जिससे सरिस्का प्रकृति, इतिहास और संस्कृति का अनोखा संगम बन जाता है। #AmritKaalKaTigerVision2047 #Tigers #NTCA #SariskaTigerReserve @ForestRajasthan @PMOIndia @moefcc @wii_india @MSTrIPES @PIB_India @EnvironmentPib @IBCA_official @Unitedfortigers

We in India cherish the fact that we are home to some of the world’s most extraordinary wildlife. We are home to over 70% of the world’s tiger population. We have the largest population of the one-horned rhino, the maximum Asiatic elephants. India is the only place in the world where the majestic Asiatic lion thrives.

The NDA Government has undertaken numerous efforts for wildlife protection. This includes the setting up of the International Big Cat Alliance, an exceptional forum to share best practices with fellow nations. Other efforts include those aimed at protecting the Great Indian Bustard, Gharial, Sloth Bear and translocation of cheetahs.

World Wildlife Day is about celebrating the incredible faunal diversity that enriches our planet and sustains our ecosystems. It is a day to acknowledge everyone working towards wildlife protection. We reaffirm our commitment to conservation, sustainable practices and protecting habitats so that our wildlife continues to thrive.
