I spent time with displaced women at @youthlinksomal nutrition centre outside Mogadishu – one of the last standing in the area. Caseloads have tripled lately. Many are fleeing violence and indiscriminate drone attacks. They were clear what funding cuts mean to their survival.

A cruel swipe of a pen in a rich capital stacks the survival odds even further against the displaced Somali women I met today. Cuts mean they have to go much further to get lifesaving food, medicine and water, with no guarantees they’ll find any.

@HonMosiria This is one of the most poorly designed and built footbridges I have ever seen. When doing projects of the nature, the socio-econo-political dynamics should be taken into account. A well lit tunnel would have made more sense than the footbridge. This showbiz wont solve anything.

This evening along Mombasa Road, I witnessed a deeply concerning situation where some pedestrians blatantly disregarded traffic rules, avoiding designated footbridges and instead risking their lives by crossing busy roads amid fast-moving traffic. This dangerous behavior continues to put lives at risk and has contributed to a worrying number of fatal accidents on our roads. We have received multiple reports of pedestrians being knocked down while attempting to cross in unsafe areas. These tragic incidents are entirely preventable if proper crossing points are used. Our county officers will be deployed to enforce compliance and enhance safety along these roads. However, enforcement alone is not enough we all have a role to play in promoting road safety. I appeal to all pedestrians to prioritize their safety by using footbridges and designated crossings at all times. Your life is invaluable. Let us work together to build a culture of responsibility and awareness on our roads, where every journey whether by foot or vehicle ends safely.

The only way to stop this reckless behavior of boda boda riders breaking the law is to arrest both the rider and the customer. By doing so, they will be forced to self-regulate, as clients will demand that riders follow the law and avoid risking their lives by using the wrong side of the road.

Drought conditions are escalating in #Somalia. In the north, families are abandoning their villages, in search of water & pasture. People in Puntland State told @OCHASom the challenges they face. Because of funding cuts, they are not getting the assistance they urgently need.
