This argument makes no sense, because there are a bunch of religions that say you have to follow exactly them or go to hell (or some equivalent place). Like do you just Russian roulette it with which hell loving religion you chose to believe in?

@blauer_gamer Denke bei der Romantik geht es ja eher um das Gegenstück zur kalten Rationalisierung.
Gerade ein Motiv wie die Götterdämmerung (sich dem Schicksal mit Ehre stellen, auch wenn man weiß, dass es vorbei ist) passt da finde ich sehr gut rein auch wenn es tragisch ist.

Und das stimmt wahrscheinlich auch, aber gerade die Post-Wagnerianer/-Nietzscheaner wie Strauss würde ich eigentlich nicht mehr als "Romantiker" bezeichnen. Bei denen fehlt die Moral in der Musik, da ist alles schon fast apokalyptisch und damit wieder tragisch. Das ist quasi die ganze 1945-Götterdämnerung schon in der Musik vorgefühlt.

Nietzsche said a lot of contradictory stuff but one of his most consistent ideas is that archaic western culture used to value brute strength for its own sake but Judeo-Christianity inverted the relationship between strength and goodness and encouraged the strong to feel guilt and pity for the weak. He revered Homer's Odysseus much more than a contemporary Christian priest.
So it's funny that Nolan made The Odyssey kinda Christian—accentuating the main character's guilt, trauma—and then many Christian conservatives, who decided that they were going to hate the movie because it had a Black actress in the wrong role, instead have to twist themselves into the pretzel of arguing that making the Odyssey Christian is "woke" and they just really wanted to see a movie and hero that properly embodied the very same archaic and anti-Christian values that in any other context they would consider abhorrent.

Just saw The Odyssey. Despite what you may have heard, literally all of the criticisms by conservatives were entirely correct. The movie is just as woke as you fear, if not more so. The DEI casting is atrocious. Completely takes you out of the story right from the beginning. But even worse than that is Nolan’s decision to turn Odysseus into an anachronistic whiney, solemn shell of a man plagued by “trauma” and guilt. It’s impossible to overlook these flaws because the film itself is not terribly entertaining or well constructed. For the most part it is disjointed, dull, self-serious, disenchanted, somehow feeling both verbose and overly rushed at the same time. The dialogue is some of the worst I’ve ever heard in a “critically acclaimed” film. “On the nose” and “clunky” are descriptions that can’t even begin to describe this script. At no point in the story does Nolan ever transport the audience to the ancient world. You never feel like you’re 3,000 years in the past. You feel like you’re watching modern Americans put on a pageant, because you are. Nobody would be calling this thing a masterpiece if it was made by a director not named Christopher Nolan.

@LambdaNrx Habe die Volksschule um 2010 herum abgeschlossen und kann den Eindruck so nicht bestätigen. Am Ende der Unterstufe war ich ganz gut, aber auch das war bei Weitem kein allgemeiner Standard.

Als ich in der Volksschule war (in den 2000ern, noch nicht so lange her!) war es der Anspruch, dass Kinder, wenn sie damit fertig sind, also mit etwa 10 Jahren, fehlerfrei deutsch schreiben können. Heute bekommem selbst Akademiker mit Mitte 20 oft keinen Absatz ohne Fehler hin.

The reason why the online “debate me bro” culture is steadily dying isn’t that debating itself is dead or pointless but rather that debates themselves never get anywhere unless both participants have a shared set of presuppositions.
Online debates don’t work anymore because the debate itself always seems to be over first principles, even as we market them to be over “facts”.
At some point you must start with an axiom that isn’t up for debate, and if nether party agrees on what that axiom should be, debating solves nothing.
It’s all so tiresome to watch. Almost every “debate” nowadays is just an attempt to expose the other guy to be an idiot, but only within the moral or philosophical framework of the other contestant.
And this is only going to get worse. As the pre-rational social bonds that once held society together are steadily dismantled in the name of progress, we will find it increasingly difficult to talk to one another in any setting, let alone a debate.

The number of people I see totally misunderstanding this post is very concerning.
He's not advocating for fornicating with roadkill.
He's not advocating for giving up morality.
He's not even SAYING atheists DO do these things.
It's very simple: If you are not religious, why is it "wrong" to do this? He is asking you to, through the use of logic, explain where you get your "right" and "wrong" from.
And it's very easy to answer it!
