@ramez Depends on the 2nd order effects? If they outcompete and destroy American car manufacturing we'd lose both warmtime manufacturing capacity and the process knowledge that goes with it. If it forces US companies to adapt then it would be good for us, like Toyota back in the 80's.

Why not let the Chinese government subsidize cars for Americans? That, by the way, cut pollution and are more fun to drive? Seems like a good deal to me!
Jeffrey Dean Hochderffer@JHochderffer

@ramez Automobile manufacturing in china is heavily subsidized. Allow them in, but heavy tariffs.

A weird little node for Wan 2.2, the First-Middle-Last Frame I2V node. If this is easy to use, I'll give it a go, better than a full-fledge daisy chain or real multi-frame workflow, no? github.com/wallen0322/Com…

@CJHandmer @Summersaltcloud @paulg Happiness surveys all suffer from the "could you imagine a happier life" problem. Americans may imagine more upside than Finns, so rate themselves lower relative to that potential. Finns figure that they're already about as happy as they're going to get.

Maybe they could have cut in some fanfares, some sora visuals, an A lister cameo monumental science moment commentary, or a heartfelt recommendation to go out this weekend, celebrate Winter Solstice like an Upper Paleolithic only would... Somebody say something profound!

Happy Monday, monster lovers. --sref 1692450842 Today’s animated style is mostly black and white with the occasional brilliant pop of and red-orange that makes you want to reroll over and over again. Just do me a favor and throw it into relax mode before you get too excited.

I am fascinated by the theory of tiny primordial black holes hitting solar system planets and moons and going through them as if they are barely there. Here's a painting of such blackhole# piercing through our moon and emerging on the other side, leaving a small, unusual crater.

Yesbox - Metropolis 1998@YesboxStudios·
I've been keeping a milestone summary of Metropolis 1998's development since I wrote the first line of code in Nov. '21. I summed the time I spent on road network/pathing code, and it comes out to a whopping 8.5 months 👴 Half that time was implementing (3-4 times) the road placement + graphics + node connections / hierarchy + on-road pathing. About a quarter of that time was developing an efficient way to find, store, and access all possible shortest paths between all node pairs. And the last quarter was for off-road and sidewalk pathing. This might explain why there's so few [traditional] city builders on the market. Road networks are hard and time consuming.

@CharlesCMann It's a paper that seems tailored to our current political sensibilities? At least the popularization of it that I read in Scientific American had that feel.

I agree that post modern architecture affronts the human soul, but TC is idiotically waxing orgasmic about one classical Potemkin subway station. He should have taken the whole tour of Stalinist concrete disasters & should acknowledge the Soviet love of Brutalism.
