@batsoupyum keep it crypto.
When i think of painting i think of the culture (history/tradition) not the medium.
English

Cryptoart has 2 parts and it's the "crypto" part of that word that the masses find distasteful. We'll be fighting that stigma for a while. Fine.
But eventually "art" will win out, as it always has, and as Vangoya deftly points out in this solid essay

Instead of using AI to paint a perfect reality, @luhhfella uses it to paint like a child. Theres an uneasy tension in his work where you don't quite know where the human ends or the machine begins.
He has a series of '11 fellas' in 'New Bad Image'

NFTs are finally about to matter.
If you’re still in the nft space, read this.

Agnes Martin told her gallerist that if he ever sold one of her paintings she would drop him. It was fine if someone wanted to buy one. But selling one was out of the question.
I agree with everything you are saying above ( my pile of tom Sachs rockets stand testament) but doing one way or another doesn’t make it better art and sometimes the best art doesn’t need the artist to cooperate with the market.
English

My humble take:
Most of these artists rode their "trad fame" in without ever building a digital community before the drop or stayed to build after. Tyler's the exception; he's native to the space and is the only one who oscillates well between the two. Nina had Punks and Stone behind her and the initiative was awesome, but she wasn't Web3 enough. The bigger issue was none of them onboarded their existing trad collectors and most of the buyers were traders/speculators, not collectors. It is the same lesson as any industry you have to learn your audience and build your fans. Brand equity in one space doesn't auto transfer to another.

Same artist. same vision. one sells for millions. but the NFT sells for $37.

our suit of armor was polyester blended
and fished from piles in a warehouse
with other self-proclaimed knights
our windmills hung from drywall
the war we fought required no travel
we lanced boils on our ass
and watched the puss construct castles
or princesses
our adventures danced for a moment
with digested microwave dinners
before being suffocated by the stench
of another losing bet

my understanding is that any of these constraints only hold up until there is enough financial incentive to route around them. dismantling code as law and turning the artist into judge and executioner. im probably wrong here. things change. but sometimes they dont.

The option for creators to enforce royalties is now live. This is about giving artists more control over how their work lives and transacts onchain.
English

@batsoupyum removing friction(s) and security risk will do more for artists than aligning liquidity incentives.
English

The whole debate around artist royalties centers around "opt in" versus "opt out"
Artists should have the tooling available to make the choice. It's their work! Up to now the platforms made it for them, which is absurd
The market can decide if they like artist royalties or not
richerd.eth@richerd
As much as I support artist royalties, I don't necessary see this a good thing. As a collector I wouldn't want to buy tokens enforced with this policy. Also using @limitbreak's ERC721C - It makes sense for PFPs and games but not for sovereign tokens.
English

@redbeardnft the bait and switch used to frustrate the hell out of me. But overtime ive come to see royalties as completely unnecessary to an artist when they accept the fact that they are unnecessary.
