@TheWrightMoron @books_andy @Fred_On_X Pfft, a few welfare hoes sued for cash. Millions of GenXers survived those playgrounds and are in far better health than the Zoomers half their age with their 30 vaccines and SSRIs and lysol crazed teachers and parents.

There used to be a special part of McDonald’s with special seats. It was for birthdays. Because kids used to have their birthday parties at Mickey Dees the way kids today have parties at the indoor adventure playgrounds. BECAUSE. IT. WAS. A. TREAT.

@books_andy @Fred_On_X No, it was a CONVENIENCE. Yes, people forgot their lunches or stopped on a long trip sometimes. But average suburban middle class person and their kids did not eat there 5x/week and definitely neither had it delievered or put it on a charge card.

@Fred_On_X MAGA Boomers out here so desperate to pretend the economy isn't in shambles they're really trying to rewrite history that McDonald's was luxurious

Medea Benjamin is crying over her Treasury subpoena for the Cuba "aid" trip. Hamas hugger who visited Gaza 7+ times & met its leaders. Code Pink cashed $1.4M+ from CCP tied billionaire Neville Singham. Dozens of arrests disrupting Congress. Iran regime junkets. Now props up Cuba's starving dictatorship. This ain't peace, it's enemy aid. Subpoena her ass yesterday. Lock this commie bitch up.

Hello Susan, You worked and trained under a revolutionary government whose aim is to destroy us. You’ve freeloaded on us taxpayers by taking tax breaks to shuffle people all around hostile governments. You broke laws openly on video while allegedly staying in five star hotels in Cuba. The globalists let you get away with this for decades, because in their narcissistic worldview, as long as someone is working through the institutions as opposed to against institutions, they’re not a threat. Even if that means said someone is an active agent of Iran/Venezuela/China/Cuba… y’see, if it’s through “the institutions” then it’s fine. And so Bush, Obama, Biden, everyone turned a blind eye to foreign Communist threats inside American soil. Trump v2.0 isn’t making that mistake. You have no idea how many of us simply want to eradicate foreign subversives working within our soil. Just know you aren’t being targeted or singled out. Rather, your special treatment at the expense of taxpayers and our national security is finally coming to an end. You are one of the most egregious examples of a foreign agent ever, and allowed to roam freely in the Capitol on top of that. And thank you to whoever at CODEPINK sent me that email threatening to sue me. You drew my attention that day and I’ve never stopped.

@medeabenjamin Why does a utopian paradise that trades with 95% of the world, excepting only the USA, badly need visitors to bring a bag of basic medical supplies?

@joeydhansen That's not true, and you can see when the budget deficits began to really explode. Boomers were already getting into middle age.

@NAllison89 Every restaurant in your town or city was packed at lunch time with working people. And if the restaurants weren't they IMMEDIATELY went out of business because that's how low the headroom is on that business. That's how it's always been. Quit LYING.

I’m 43 now. I’ve worked 50-70 hours a week my entire adult life. I’ve lost years of time with my children and loved ones just so we could afford to live. This life is not only cruel, but unnecessarily cruel. A better world is possible.

@NAllison89 Yep. Every woman whose kids were school age at least picked up a few part time hours, babysat, or cleaned houses. Nobody with a kid in Elementary School just "Stayed home". Except this one Mormon Family, but the dad was Defense Industry Physicist PhD and they had 6 kids.

@politicswarblog @a_man_in_red People who are claiming they can't afford a handful of basic items like a roasting pan or skillet, yet are daily doordashing twice or thrice what buying those things would cost in a thrift store. 'I don't wanna use somebody else's skillet' The excuses.

@a_man_in_red I think they fundamentally don't understand the economy. There's a point where you can't scrimp and save your way out of it, and that point was the 2020-2022 inflation spike and the continuing housing spike that outlasted general inflation.

I don't think Gen X and Boomers realize just how infuriating it is to be constantly given condescending "advice" like this every time someone brings up how much harder it is to buy a house now compared to when they were our age. And how many of them had to do this themselves?

@MithrasSoldier Sure you can. 50lb flour - $20 for 45 loaves. That's 50 cents per loaf, or about 2c/slice 5 dozen eggs - $10. That's 16 cents per egg. Let's use 3. Mayo, mustard, etc - $3/jar, enough for a month. 50 cents for a deluxe egg salad sando better than restaurant quality

@NatureGirl_21 There are pans at the dollar store for a few bucks and tons of stuff at the thrift store. There are frozen pizzas more expensive than common kitchen tools. There are Mayo Brands (Mr. Kensington) more expensive than used toasters or microwaves They are really stretching.

If people are so poor they cant afford pans and cutlery, then they wouldnt be able to afford take out either. This is not poor, this is bad money management. And this is beyond embarrassing coming from 'adults'.
Sack of Potatoes 🥔@SpudCannon3000

People know it’s cheaper and healthier to cook at home. It’s that it takes capital to cook at home. Some people don’t realize cooking at home is a luxury in itself. There are people so poor, they don’t have pots and pans, let alone dishes and spoons / forks. Or the soap and sponge to clean them.

@Daynlokki @SomeTxSignGuy @Warnjac It was also $15 just to call around the corner, and it cost 20c a minute for my mom to call grandma on the other side of the same state. Not $30/month for unlimited calling and texting and 2GB of data for a tracphone today

@new2dsxlgroyper If a McD's value meal with burger, fries, drink, and nuggets is $5-$6, and you make $11/hr, you have a better deal than even Xers in the 90s did, with $4.25/hr and $3.29 McDs Meals.

@Daynlokki @SomeTxSignGuy @Warnjac Rotary phones. We got a replacement in 1992 when I was a HS Senior and it sucked, worse than the rotary phone which had a 20 foot cord. If you took the handset phone over 3 feet from the base, you couldn't hear or be heard

@dangainor Also, in the 1980s, most boomers were in their 30s, not 21 years old, inflation was whooped, and the tax brackets were not so far out of whack like today.

@di_nitterwitter @ChristoFascisto Did you pay a 10-14% interest rate? The reason homes were only 2.5-3x income for boomers was because the rates were so high, sellers had no pricing power. Go back to 8-9% interest rates and in a year or the asking price will be affordable.

ha ha! This meal is actually more true of the 80s when I was a kid. I bought my first home 22 years ago. I'm Gen X. I couldn't buy it today, I know it and wish that boomers would stop pretending they worked harder and saved more than someone in the same position of needing to buy a home as a young person today. They didn't. They just had a better economy and are embarrassed to admit that they are the first generation of Americans that passed down a worse lot to their children. I see my child have a masters when I have a bachelors, she makes the same money I do and she doesn't have the same purchasing power I did at the same age.
