@JacquiMckenzie6 So what is happening with her, is she being evicted?

You probably recall the story of 89 year old Windrush pensioner, Thelma Campbell, first reported on by Nadine White & ITV news, after Haringey Council said they couldn't house her. Thelma has been a tenant of a housing provider for 25 years. They want to redevelop their estate & and want mainly Black & Asian tenants to move out with an offer of a few thousand pounds. But because Thelma couldn't prove she had the right to be in the UK despite having evidence of being here since 1960, Haringey initially refused to add her to their waiting list.
Ms Campbell is a victim of the #WindrushScandal but did not know it. It is my view that there are thousands like her.
But when she dropped in to see me & my colleague Taylor Greyson (pictured) yesterday, I discovered that the Hostile Environment faced by Caribbean elders isn't confined to the Home Office, but to local authorities, housing associations, healthcare providers, DWP & others. Last year I represented a 90 year old man who'd lived in Camden without a kitchen for 2 years; the housing provider in that case sought to blame him. This morning I took a call from an elderly client facing eviction by Lambeth council after living in the property for 30 years.
Thelma's story is wound up in the Hostile Environment. But it's bigger than the Windrush Scandal as we know it. The experience of many African, Caribbean & Asian elders reflects a callous disregard for them, & a desperate attempt to get them out of the way in the name of gentrification.

Post Office destroys lives, Water companies pollute our rivers, CCRC leaves innocent people to rot in prison, Covid ministers’ incompetence costs thousands of lives but nobody is punished. Stop traffic on M25 & get 5 years in prison. This is brutally unjust theguardian.com/environment/ar…

@DerbyChrisW Well said Chris, it's very depressing. Hilarious that Labour under Starmer get in with 9million odd votes when Labour under Corbyn pulled 12 million plus in 2017 and 10million plus in 2019. Funny that.

The Labour leadership should have been condemning Israel's war crimes in Gaza since the beginning.
The fact it didn't is a stain on its record and last night we saw electoral consequences to that.

Congratulations to the Mother of the House, re-elected for the 10th time to represent the people of Hackney North & Stoke Newington 👸🏾
With 264 women elected last night, @HackneyAbbott becomes the longest serving woman MP in the most representative Parliament in history.

Nobody I know is celebrating fascist Starmer as PM. Everyone would be beaming right now if it was @jeremycorbyn as it should have been few years ago. Shame on the Israeli lobby Labour plants now in government who made sure it didn’t happen. Very glad he won his seat in Islington!

Tonight the rain has been battering on the windows but just a week ago we were blissfully listening to the soft acoustic harmonies of @SomethingSleeps under @Time_Talents’ beautiful wisteria canopy. How gorgeous it was! Join us for another beauty: #Hanitra Thu 11th @Lontoonkirkko
