I'm absolutely stoked that our pilot was rescued and to anybody that is btchin' and moaning about it for any reason whatsoever, I have a special message just for you.

As an Iranian watching this rescue mission unfold, I was praying the American pilot would make it out alive, not just for him, but so the Islamic Republic could not use him as a bargaining chip or claim some twisted “victory.” At the same time, I felt a deep envy. Your government sent elite special forces, million-dollar aircraft, and moved heaven and earth to bring one American home. No hesitation. No excuses. In Iran, the regime uses human shields and recruited child soldiers to clear minefields during the Iran-Iraq war. They treat their own people like disposable tools. They are now recruiting child soldiers as we speak. The Islamic Republic has zero regard for human life. That’s the brutal difference. One side risks everything to save their own. The other sacrifices their own to stay in power. This hits hard when you have lived under both realities.

Last night, I had an amazing experience. I got in a Lyft to go home from a restaurant. The conversation with the gentleman started the usual way, he asked about my accent and I asked about his. I said Egypt, he said Turkey, then a slight discomfort followed. I was trying to ease the awkwardness by asking him what he does. He said “I was a journalist until the regime destroyed my paper and now they have an arrest warrant against me in Turkey.” I told him, “I’m so sorry! Erdogan is a monster. A Muslim Brotherhood monster. He’s the head of their Secret Appratus you know?” He said, “Oh you’re right, there is an amazing book that reveals that! You have to read it! It’s called, The Secret Apparatus, you can find it on Amazon you have to check it out.” I told him, “I’m familiar with it. I wrote it.” Then he said, “No, it’s about the Muslim Brotherhood’s secret apparatus.” I said, “yeah that’s the one. I wrote it.” And after doing this few more times. He was shocked, stopped the car, opened his phone and showed it to me on Amazon. I said, “yes man, that’s the one. Look at the woman’s picture. It’s me.” Then when he realized it was true he was so excited! And he’s meeting me today with his copy of my book so I can sign it. I do meet random people who know my work, but this gentleman was extra special. It felt like it was all worth it. He and people like him are why I wrote it, it’s for them.
