been a wild ride :’) so much more to come! shoutout to @sroodsari for this incredible drawing, best candle partner ever
Alex Ruber@alex_ruber

day 368 of building @trycandleapp, a game to help friends and couples connect more :) today is candle’s 1 year birthday! 🎂 we officially launched on the app store one year ago here’s the journey so far: - 1m+ users - $2m+ annualized revenue - $1.2m+ arr - sub 8% monthly churn - full time team of 3 personally super grateful for the team and the incredible talent that made this possible. It is crazy to think how far we’ve come in just a year here’s to many more years of candle 🕯️ pair with someone td!

this is why the majority of our team’s eng time nowadays is spent planning. building great architecture is challenging, and the ability to communicate maintainable software practices clearly has never been more important it’s never been easier to submit an app to the app store, but keeping software simple and maintainable will decide the longevity of these apps (how frequently they can update, support new features, refactor, etc.)
David Cramer@zeeg

im fully convinced that LLMs are not an actual net productivity boost (today) they remove the barrier to get started, but they create increasingly complex software which does not appear to be maintainable so far, in my situations, they appear to slow down long term velocity

I've been having such an amazing time with Claude Code I wanted you to be able to have my *exact* skill setup: Introducing gstack, which you can install just by pasting a short piece of text into your Claude code

byoc build your own customer support agents
Alex Ruber@alex_ruber

day 360 of building @trycandleapp, a game to help friends and couples connect more :) we started averaging ~30–40 support emails a day, takes us roughly 1-2 hrs per day for @parthematics and me to respond to all of them, so we built an internal tool to handle customer support faster. shoutout @FactoryAI missions for one shotting this Pair with someone td!

Cursor now shows you demos, not diffs. Agents can use the software they build and send you videos of their work.

business partners to friends > pure friends to business partners if the goal is building a company w highest probability of success then starting with skill alignment beats starting with emotional alignment, and once/if you survive the hardship, the friendship forged is actually way stronger

@MadelineGris what auth provider are you using? a lot of them should have bot protection for spam attacks like this no? are you allowing text based verification on all countries?

Day 116 of building a fashion app… Last night someone found my phone auth endpoint and launched an OTP pumping attack spamming my server. 😡 I ended up disabling countries, and then shutting off login entirely to stop it. Shipped a hotfix: human verification + device tokens + rate limiting. In less than an hour of the ongoing attack, I quickly racked up a $1k Twilio bill 😭 Now rebuilding auth & security properly now as usage grows. (if you’re a strong backend / infra / ML engineer, DM me)
