The Two Kashmir Giants Posing with the American Photographer James Ricalton in 1903...
The Durbar of 1903 was held in Delhi to celebrate the succession of the British monarch King Edward VII (the great-grandfather of the current British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II) as the Emperor of India.
The Delhi Durbar was organized by Lord Curzon, India’s viceroy at the time. The original plan was for Edward himself to come to India for a special coronation ceremony, but when the King refused (he was conspicuously less interested in India than Victoria had been), Curzon decided to stage a massive spectacle instead.
After two years’ planning, the ceremonies began on 29 December 1902 with a lavish parade of elephants through the streets. Guests included a wide range of Indian princes and maharajas, with the Duke of Connaught representing the British Royal Family.
The actual Durbar was held on New Year’s Day, 1903, on a large plain outside Delhi and was intended to highlight the supposed glory of the monarchy and its Empire.
The assembly displayed possibly the greatest collection of jewels to be seen in one place. Each of the Indian princes was adorned with the most spectacular of his gems from the collections of centuries.
Maharajahs came with great retinues from all over India, many of them meeting for the first time while the massed ranks of the Indian armies, under their Commander-in-Chief Lord Kitchener, paraded, played their bands, and restrained the crowds of common people.
On the first day, the Curzons entered the area of festivities, together with the maharajas, riding on elephants, some with huge gold candelabras stuck on their tusks. But nothing creates an impression like having two giant guards in your entourage.
The Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Maharaja brought along with him two of the tallest men (in the whole world it seems) from Kashmir.
One of the giants was 7’9” tall (2.36 m) while the “shorter” one was a mere 7’4” tall (2.23 m) and according to various sources they were indeed twin brothers.
They created quite an impression at the Durbar as they literally stood heads and shoulders above the rest. The brothers were known as the Two Kashmir Giants and were elite riflemen in the service of the Maharaja.
The event was attended by international journalists and photographers, one of them being James Ricalton, an American traveler and photographer who managed to get a few pictures with the Two Giants of Kashmir.
We don’t know exactly how tall Ricalton was, but judging by his photographs he surely loved posing with the two giants of Kashmir.
The Brisbane Courier printed in February 1903, had an article titled “The Retinue of the Ruler of Kashmir included a fine detachment of Cuirassiers and a huge Giant”. Probably the reporter didn’t see the other Giant.
One of the original captions claims that the Kashmiri brothers were originally from a place called “Balmokand”. Unfortunately, we can’t locate this place in Kashmir, maybe the name changed or someone got it wrong.

@archeohistories Thank you Edward.
Unfortunately we forget about the native people and especially the Genocide we perpetrated on them!
English

For three decades beginning in the early 1900s, Edward S. Curtis devoted his life to documenting the lives, traditions, and dignity of Native American peoples across North America. With a deep sense of purpose and a heavy camera in tow, Curtis traveled thousands of miles to live among over 80 Indigenous tribes. He witnessed and recorded ceremonies, daily routines, and vanishing ways of life—capturing not only images but also oral histories, music, and languages that might otherwise have been lost to time.
Curtis approached his work with reverence, aiming to preserve what he believed was a noble culture under threat from rapid colonization and assimilation. His portraits are striking in their detail and humanity, often set against stark natural backdrops or filled with ceremonial regalia, capturing both pride and vulnerability. Through his lens, we see elders, warriors, medicine men, and young children—all frozen in time at a pivotal moment in history when Indigenous communities were being systematically stripped of their lands, rights, and cultural practices.
Though Curtis’s work has drawn both admiration and criticism—some for his romanticized or staged compositions—it remains an invaluable and haunting record of a people pushed to the brink. His vast collection, *The North American Indian*, remains one of the most ambitious ethnographic projects ever undertaken. Today, it offers a powerful, if complex, window into the resilience, beauty, and strength of Native American cultures before the full force of U.S. policies sought to erase them.

@archeohistories Well!
At least something good did come out of WW II.
End of E. Prussia aristocracy!
English

Prussian nobleman's son Alexander zu Dohna-Schlobitten, 7, sits in a chair at his family's estate (German Empire, 1907)
The Dohna-Schlobitten family belonged to the East Prussian aristocracy, a class that held large landed estates and maintained significant political and military influence within the German Empire (1871–1918). These estates, often called Junker holdings, were central to agricultural production and social hierarchy in the region.
Children of noble families were typically raised within rigid social structures, receiving private education, language instruction, and early preparation for roles in the military, diplomacy, or estate management. It was common for boys to be associated with military culture from a young age, reflected here by the uniform-style cap.
By the early 20th century, East Prussia was a predominantly rural province, with large estates controlling vast tracts of land. However, this world changed rapidly after World War I, and more dramatically after World War II, when East Prussia was dissolved, its German population expelled, and estates like Schlobitten lost or repurposed.
After 1945, much of former East Prussia was divided between Poland and the Soviet Union, ending centuries of Prussian aristocratic landownership.

Yes he stood solemn during WW II, but his many policies were shaped by the old colonial mentality of the ‘Empire’!

Winston Churchill moved to tears following a tribute to his legacy shortly after his resignation as Prime Minister, 1955. Churchill would remain a British MP until 1964, but would never again return to the position of Prime Minister...
In 1955, Winston Churchill stepped down as Prime Minister for the second time, ending one of the most consequential political careers of the 20th century.
Churchill was 80 years old and in declining health, having suffered a series of strokes in the years leading up to his resignation. The moment captured here followed a tribute to his leadership, particularly his role in guiding Britain through World War II, when his speeches and resolve became central to national morale.
Though he left the premiership, Churchill remained a Member of Parliament until 1964, representing Woodford. By then, his public appearances had become rare, and his political influence had largely transitioned into legacy.
Across his two terms as Prime Minister (1940–1945 and 1951–1955), Churchill led Britain through wartime crisis and postwar transition, helping shape both military strategy and the early contours of the Cold War.
In 1953, two years before his resignation, Churchill was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, not for a single work, but for his lifetime of historical writing and oratory, including his multi-volume history of World War II.

🇭🇺🇮🇱Péter Magyar says he will arrest Netanyahu if he comes to Hungary
He says Hungary will remain a member of the International Criminal Court and would arrest Netanyahu if he comes to Hungary:
“I made it clear to the Israeli Prime Minister that we will not back down.
Hungary under a Tisza government intends to remain a member of the International Criminal Court.
If someone is a member of the International Criminal Court, and a person who is wanted enters the territory of our country, then he must be detained.”

@drhossamsamy65 Yes, yes and YES!

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, and the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, today announced the launching of the Isaac Accords. The Isaac Accords constitute a new strategic framework aimed at strengthening cooperation between Argentina, Israel and like-minded partners in the Western Hemisphere, the descendants of Isaac and nations of the Judeo-Christian tradition, in defense of freedom and democracy, and in the fight against terrorism, antisemitism, and drug trafficking. Participating countries will pursue concrete actions based on these principles. Efforts will be directed toward enhancing coordination against terrorist organizations, with particular attention to Iran’s attempts to expand its terrorist networks and operational presence across the Western Hemisphere. The initiative also seeks to foster coordination and alignment in international forums and to promote a framework to expand cooperation in innovation, technology, trade and economic openness.
This initiative is inspired by the vision of US President Donald J. Trump’s Abraham Accords. The Isaac Accords were conceived by President Milei, who has emerged as a leading voice for freedom and hope in the region.
The Isaac Accords aim to promote peace through actions that foster long-term regional stability, security, and economic prosperity.
We welcome the expansion of the Accords to include other like-minded nations in the Western Hemisphere that share these values.
