Actually, I am very consistent. Why should I, as a company, pay 25%, but my husband, who is on PAYG, pays 47.5 cents in the dollar? Labour should not be penalised so much in relation to capital. We both work very hard. I say this as someone totally opposed to the current government. Obviously Labor didn’t address the top rate, which they should have.

@paxtherock @NoelWhittaker Your assumption is all trust are for tax avoidance. If you are a company than your probably at 25% flat tax. So I’m thinking the government needs to remove any tax advantages on franking credits.. what say you? There goes your dividend rort.

I'm running numbers on family trusts. If the trust owned by mum, dad, and 19-year-old daughter earns $180,000 a year and they distribute $60,000 to each the tax will be three times $9,000 = $27000. At 30% flat, it's $54,000. That's double - The only way out is to change distributions to wages, but they must be able to justify the wage. It's a shameful attack on business

Invest in a better accountant- yes I understand the tax minimisation of a trust. My point stays the same- why should you have two different taxes rates paid on the same level of income? I understand you can- but why? I am no supporter of the current government- on any measure. However justice would suggest these should be the same.
DSWcentre@DsWcentre

@paxtherock @NoelWhittaker Many business’s run trusts as opposed to companies, doesn’t make it wrong or tax avoidance. It’s common sense and good financial accounting. Stop spooking and invest in a better accountant.

@BishopBarron Seriously- you are interviewing an openly homosexual man, in a gay relationship, who has purchased children. I suspect this is not a conversation for him to repent and convert. I pray for you Bishop Barron. This is really beyond the pale.

Spoiler alert. She can have the baby in the UK. In case you aren’t aware, we are running massive government debt. Why should young Australians be working their backsides off to pay off interest, just so the government can borrow more for foreigners to live off government money—which they don’t have, literally borrowing money to pay for it? Naturally, if you personally want to go into debt to fund this—sure. Send your check to the UK women and she can give birth in a private hospital, in Australia.

They were correct. These stories were written by a particular people and culture. Why are you erasing these people from their own stories. These are the stories of Western Civilisation. Stop your cultural appropriation. Instead if you want to caste Africans in the leads- make movies of African myths.

You got wealthy by using these tax breaks, as did nearly every MP. But now your bank accounts are full, let’s (yet again) bring up the drawbridge. Yes, younger generations have been very poorly treated. But if you actually cared, you would slash immigration—housing is a supply and demand issue. But you don’t. You just want more money to squander.

What a total failure. Totally deserved of course. OGM is only bearable on TRT (because they are prevented from the moral disgust which they usually deliver).

Why does Mary look younger than Jesus in Michelangelo's Pietà? The answer is one of the most beautiful in art history... Mary is holding the body of her 33 year old son, but she looks 20. Critics noticed it the moment the sculpture was unveiled in 1499. The mother of a man who has just been crucified would have been in her late forties or early fifties. Michelangelo had carved her as a girl. His own biographer, Ascanio Condivi, was the one who finally asked him why. The answer Michelangelo gave is preserved in Condivi's Life of Michelangelo and has been repeated for centuries: "Do you not know that chaste women stay fresh much more than those who are not chaste? How much more in the case of the Virgin, who had never experienced the least lascivious desire that might change her body?" Most modern critics treat this answer as a half-serious deflection. Michelangelo was famous for his sharp tongue and refused to explain himself to people he considered beneath his intellect. The deeper answer is older, and it lies inside one of the greatest poems ever written. In the final canto of Dante's Paradiso, Saint Bernard of Clairvaux begins his prayer to the Virgin with one of the most extraordinary lines in Italian literature: "Vergine madre, figlia del tuo figlio." "Virgin mother, daughter of your own son." Michelangelo, who knew Dante by heart, was carving that line into stone. Mary is younger than Jesus because Jesus is older than the universe... because she gave birth to her own creator. But there is another reading, simpler than either of those, and it is the one I find myself thinking of today. Every mother who has held her child has held them at every age at once. The infant is still inside the toddler. The toddler is still inside the teenager. The young man on her lap, even dead, is also the boy she nursed and the baby she first carried home. And maybe that's why Michelangelo did not carve Mary as the years had aged her. He carved her as love had kept her: outside of time, outside of grief, holding her son the way she had always held him... Happy Mother's Day. -- -- -- If you enjoyed this, I write a weekly newsletter read by over 50,000 people who love rediscovering the beauty of the past. Last week Candace Owens told the world the Daily Wire had laid off over 50% of its workforce — then updated it to “60% absolute bloodbath.” I’m sure it will shock you to learn those figures aren’t anywhere close to the truth. But there’s a much bigger story beyond Candace’s "mistaken" reporting. The story is how lying has become the default operating system for huge swaths of both legacy media and the new online right. The Grift Industrial Complex rewards speed, sensationalism, and telling the audience exactly what it wants to hear over anything resembling journalistic standards, due diligence, or basic honesty. I know this world because I helped build part of it. We broke past the old gatekeepers for good reason. The old gatekeepers broke all of their own standards. But too few in new media even have standards to break. They say bad money drives out good. It turns out bad journalism does too. youtu.be/z59rdbK7VR4?si…

Shouldn’t capital be taxed at the same rate as labour? I mean the top marginal rate for labour with Medicare levy is nearing 50%. Which is insane. However that is the current state. I think both should be charged at the same rate. I think spending should be slashed. But can’t see why capital gets such as discount over labour.

Theft from aspirational Australians will be delivered in the budget next week. Young Aussie puts in $10k, compounds at 15% for 50 years → $10.84 million. Inflation-indexed cost base: just $44k. Current CGT: $2.63M tax. Labor’s new proposal: $5.23M tax. They want to seize HALF your life’s work. This isn’t tax reform — it’s theft from aspirational Australia. Stop punishing success. #TaxRaid #AussieDreamKiller

Season 3 YC was so horrific, and honestly Mert's involvement and clear disdain for the audience, means he doesn't have a loyal base to tune it to look at the story. Totally deserved. Despite his star status. Delightful.
