i think it really depends on the type of product
free users can also improve the value of your product because of the network effect
i think it works for a few different types of businesses if you can manage the cost (support and usage costs)

I agree with Alex here, but there are other reasons for a free plan.
Just dont treat it as a pricing strategy. It can be a great marketing strategy however.
Free users do NOT become paid users
Free users CAN become advocates
Best example: Tally.so. .

@pbertrand_dev For the 2nd one, I had a real medical issue that ChatGPT told me to ignore.
I didn't listen because I'm stubborn and felt the reasoning it gave me was incomplete, and everything is fine now.
Could have gone another way if I didn't think for myself though. And many people don't.

I've been thinking more about why many developers in the WordPress ecosystem keep their concerns private. When the way you distribute your work is controlled by someone else, disagreeing with that someone stops being a conversation. It becomes a risk calculation.

@pbertrand_dev Without AI, I spent six years of my life paying hundreds of thousands of euros to digital agencies to create two SaaS that never took off. Now, I only have myself to blame if the next ones suffer the same fate. And my euros stay in my pocket
