@BigBenInLondon @shlong_weekend @SkinnyTuna Placebo absolutely doesn’t work on everyone. An open-label placebo test only works because the subjects think that they might actually be getting a real drug - essentially a game of cat and mouse where the brain subconsciously fills in the gaps. If you know for a fact /1

@FUCORY @thdxr “why not do the right thing, which takes the same amount of time, instead of choosing the dogshit option that will lead to a bunch of extra work later down the road?”

@thdxr I think you answered you own question on why it's not worth bikeshedding over But agreed that llms still don't have high crafstmanship they are great at writing good enough code that is only good enough because of how fast they can refactor it if it becomes a problem

as good as LLMs have become at understanding instructions and solving the task, they still don't produce the code i would their solutions are always the 2nd or 3rd best way of doing something you think this doesn't matter because so are yours

Fascinating that this thing in the macos status bar has absolutely zero feedback when a device auto connects / disconnects. Fundamentally unserious company with one of the least usable consumer operating systems

It looks cool but generally I don't get the hype around tiling/window managers. I use everything on full screen. I mean, it's all a browser and a code editor, what else are you running even? And why don't you use the whole space?

@dhh Is there any way to run Omarchy with a conventional VM? I don't like the flow of tiled, I've tried.

@KyleLeiblein @Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ telling people to stop acknowledging that this is a problem only leads to us never fixing it. we need to talk about things if we ever want to change them

An entire generation under the age of 30 is coming to realization that having a family and home will never be within the grasp of reality for them Society is not ready for the consequences of this. A generation with no stake in the system would rather watch it burn

@KyleLeiblein @Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ i do understand it. what i’m telling you is that you’ve got to think of the other people who may not be able to reach the same things as you. and they shouldn’t have to live shitty lives because of that.

@pelletsboi @Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ While you may not fully understand it yet, you will appreciate this perspective in time... Self-motivation and understanding one's value truly are valuable assets to financial success. I just wish I'd recognized this sooner.

@KyleLeiblein @Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ i am doing good, so no, i’m not on the same boat. but i’m not disillusioned that all people need is more effort and everything will be alright. not everyone can just put in more effort and come out on top, and even so, that shouldn’t be needed for you to live a mundane life

@pelletsboi @Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ Conscious effort is what people lack. It sounds like you might be on that same boat? I was just like many of you not even 6 years ago, but I stopped playing the victim card.

No, they can't. 'Affordable towns and states' don't exist because they're gentrified by foreigners, so there's no business there. 'Renovate their homes' that they don't own, so have to rent and can't modify due to rental agreements. 'Learn a skill' Maybe in between shifts at their 2+ jobs, or maybe if they can scrape the cash together due to being unemployed. No one expects handouts. We want what you had; opportunity. Unfortunately, your generation decided that was for foreigners, so you offshored manufacturing, you outsourced support centres, you hired migrants to potwash and wait tables, and be janitors and no one reads the paper these days, so no paper rounds, and you can't have lemonade stands because little Sally didn't get a health inspection etc etc etc. You're out of touch, you're out of line, and when you finally stop being able to vote against the interests of those younger than you, there will be an upheaval.

@Agent_Stickman @BoringBiz_ Rather than focusing on being a victim, there are practical solutions that don't involve working three jobs. For example, seeking out a better paying position with better benefits or moving to an area with a lower cost of living, preferably outside of a major city.

@GenevaInvestor @jaenicc In American terms, 400k visitors - especially if they have a shared destination not shared by other people - is light tourism. Rick Steves includes one of these pilgrimage places as an attraction in and of itself. Crowd and all.

This is by far the most underrated region in Europe. Best gastronomy on the continent. lush forests and mountains. Few tourists.
