@JohnnyFocal Great question - I’m very much an ‘amateur’ home cinema geek who wants the best picture & sound I can fit in or afford. Balancing my aspirations with what my (infinitely) better half believes is acceptable in a lounge is challenging
However others think I get away with murder. 😂

At home, do you want home cinema, or do you actually want cinema?
Because most setups (and most viewing habits) stop at “home cinema”: acceptable, convenient, vaguely impressive. But not cinema. And that’s the point — the gap isn’t capability, it’s intent. The potential to create something genuinely cinematic is already there in a lot of living rooms… so why are we choosing not to use it?
That’s what the whole conversation with DJ was really about.

One of the reasons I don’t think you’ll ever get a response from @Criterion is simple: they’d have to admit they made a mistake. They compromised on quality here. And rather than hold their hands up and say, “Yes — we undersold this. We didn’t deliver what we’ve delivered on other 4K releases,” they’ve chosen silence. Because once you acknowledge that this disc is substandard by their own standards — especially when you put it next to something like Barry Lyndon — you’re admitting the core promise has been broken. And I suspect there are too many egos in the room for that to happen. Really interesting from Ollie, there is a definitely almost a sense of turning up to Villa Park and expecting a win.
