Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II (1194–1250), also called "Stupor Mundi" and "the first modern man," was known for being intellectually curious and growing up in Sicily with a mix of people from different cultures. He spoke many languages well, including Arabic, which he used to talk with Muslim experts. Frederick's talks about Islamic philosophy and theology, especially with Ibn Sab'in, showed how knowledgeable he was. He also pushed for Arabic works to be translated into Latin, which helped people from different countries learn from each other. Instead of fighting during the Sixth Crusade, he talked with Sultan al-Kamil and got important towns for Christians, which helped keep the peace. Because he was close to Muslims, the Pope called him the "Antichrist" and accused him of heresy. His political views were pragmatic, and his personal beliefs were orthodox Christian. Despite these labels, scholars now see him as a "philosopher king," someone who was able to unite people of different cultures and religions. #drthehistories

🚨 Clarence Seedorf on Arne Slot’s Liverpool FC: 🗣️ “I’ve watched Liverpool closely… and honestly, I still can’t clearly say what their exact style of play is. That’s a problem. At the top level, you must have identity—clear patterns, clear structure, something you can recognise every game. Right now, it feels inconsistent. Sometimes they press, sometimes they drop, sometimes they look organised—and then suddenly they lose control. You don’t see a strong, defined idea. And that surprises me, especially for a coach who won the league last season. Because success usually comes with clarity. But here, I don’t see that same level of control or consistency. At a club like Liverpool, you cannot rely on moments or individual quality. You need a system that works every week. Right now… it looks confused. And if that doesn’t change, it will cost them.”

@TaintlessRed Now you know why the owners are sticking to Slot: he's lucky. Before promoting an officer, Napoleon would ask if he was lucky.

I'm reluctantly posting on X again because the world needs to read this. My daughter Zoe Rogers gave her own closing speech at the Filton trial, as did 4 other defendants, while their barristers looked on. This is what she said 🧵 1/

What happened to Alexis MacAllister this season? He was an exquisite midfielder now he is not even average. (No fitness isn’t the issue, he even said it wasn’t the case in an interview earlier this season)

Arne Slot signs Jeremie Frimpong to replace Trent, but somehow still ends up playing Jones & Szoboszlai at right-back ahead of him. I get the tactical flexibility, but if you’re signing ( at Leverkusen ) one of the best attacking right-backs in Europe, surely the plan should be to actually use him there? NO? Am I going mad?

Hajj Hussein Ali Faqih “Abu Ali,” 87, wasn’t killed in a strike. He wrote his own final chapter. He chose to return, every day, to the ruins of his home in Srifa, South Lebanon. His daily return to the rubble, as if the house were still intact, had become a story in itself. He slept on its stones, among the remains of a life he refused to leave behind, searching through the debris for the life he had lived there. Abu Ali died there, sleeping on the stones that were once the walls of his life in Srifa, taking shelter in memories heavier than the loss itself. War doesn’t always kill in a moment. Sometimes it finishes the job slowly.

In case anyone still entertains the fiction that Naftali Bennett @naftalibennett and Yair Lapid @yairlapid offer a principled alternative to Benjamin Netanyahu @netanyahu, consider this: their newly launched campaign proposes sanctioning @CarrefourFrance for failing to expand into settlements across the occupied West Bank. #Israeli politics continues its steady movement along a single axis, from the extreme to the more extreme, where unlawful territorial entrenchment is no longer contested, only calibrated towards political gains.
