@vasabjit_b Well, the counter argument is that China is solely focused on surpassing the US in every metric that counts. If anything the genocide in Gaza has shown how evil the west are. Compared to that, China not interfering is won’t do much damage to their global reputation.

Within 60 days, two major partners of China--Iran and Pakistan--faced devastating air attacks from regional rivals and one by the U.S.. China didn't lift a finger at the UN, let alone threaten to intervene. The Soviets did this many times. Let it be a lesson to China's partners.
vasabjit banerjee@vasabjit_b

Among great powers, the super power, and regional players removing Iran's nuclear facilities and leaving the regime standing was almost pareto optimal. The potential spoiler is Israel, which may equally seek the latter. PS. While PRC didn't step in for Iran, the USSR would have.

@RyanCoetzee You are right but you are basing this on what the western media organizations are reporting. Iran’s media ( state supported or not ) have figures they report on.

It’s nearly impossible to get an accurate assessment of the impact of Israel’s strikes on Iran. Who are the best people to follow? (Much easier understanding impact of Iran’s strikes on Israel: next-to-nothing, apart from lost lives of course.)

📣 We are LIVE! These 1.4 million citizens and lawful residents have always been eligible for the green ID book - but not for the more-secure Smart ID. Thanks to Home Affairs’ digital reforms, they can now replace the vulnerable green book with the Smart ID for the very first time - starting with applicants from visa exempt countries. This not only helps to eliminate fraud related to the physical alteration of photos and info in the green ID book, but also enables us to verify applicant’ biometrics as part of the Smart ID’s live capture process. We are enhancing national security - one Smart ID at a time! 🇿🇦

🚨 Big news: for the first time ever, over 1.4 million naturalised citizens and lawful permanent residents are now eligible to obtain Smart IDs and use eHomeAffairs! We’re starting with applicants from visa exempt countries and then expanding to all others. This a major milestone on the digital transformation journey of #TeamHomeAffairs, which continues to deliver and accelerate. It is a victory for social inclusion, as these citizens and lawful residents were previously excluded from the Smart ID and restricted to the vulnerable green ID book. And it is a victory for national security, as it makes our country less reliant on the insecure green ID book. Broadening inclusion, enhancing security, and boldly moving our country into the future: this is the power of digital transformation as Home Affairs works to deliver dignity for all 🇿🇦

@verashni You are clueless.I’ve got first hand experience with applications from foreigners at dha when Motsoaledi was minister vs Shrieiber. Post shreiber their comms lines are way more responsive. The entire application process is streamlined. Prev minister rejected most apps. Do better

Petty cupcake is my favourite cupcake. He just made sure his government took credit for resolving the visa backlog, which DA minister Leon Schreiber keeps trying to claim even though it happened before his time. 😂 #SONA2025 #cyrilramaphosa #homeaffairs

Musk's claim that just 10% of US aid reaches recipients is absurd. @cgdev lays out the facts: - US gov costs are just 10% - Rest reaches recipients mostly thru US corps/nonprofits + multilateral agencies - ~10% goes thru foreign organizations cgdev.org/blog/no-90-per…

When I wrote this essay yesterday, Trump's announcement over (nonexistent) "land grabs" and "human rights abuses" had not yet come out. It's even more relevant now. Out at 7.30am now.

Lot of outrage regarding Mohanlal's picture being used in this article. It's because it was published on Aug 27 and was about AMMA and Mohanlal. You will know why @dhanyarajendran made the Radhika reference if you read the article. 1/ thenewsminute.com/powertrip/kera…

The GNU has together identified visa reform to attract skills, investment and tourism as a key priority to create jobs. Now we’re working together to implement at speed, as expressed through @thedpsa Minister Inkosi Mzamo Buthelezi’s enabling support of @HomeAffairsSA’s backlog project. This is your GNU in action. Minister Buthelezi should qualify as an honourary member of #TeamHomeAffairs 😃

This important milestone motivates #TeamHomeAffairs to push even harder to meet our goal of eradicating the decade-old backlog by the end of this year. This will create a springboard for reform and digital transformation. The mission is clear: no more backlog by Christmas! 🇿🇦
