@AlexEdgerton "better safety in modern cars"? The point is to get better safety OUTSIDE of modern cars.

You can force people to crawl at 20 mph, and get a 26% decrease in casualties - which might be due to better safety in modern cars... Or you can use Tesla's self driving, which sees 800% less accidents, and keep the old speed limit. Maybe even raise it a bit.
20's Plenty for Us@20splentyforus

The Welsh 20mph default is arguably the most successful road safety initiative this century. Winning international road safety awards, reducing casualties by 26% and insurance premiums. Yes, more should have been spent on engagement, but its a winning policy. 20splenty.org/wales-pma-20mph 20splenty.org/wales-pma-20mph

If you oppose discrimination and believe “cycling policy must sit alongside policies for disabled people, pedestrians and bus users”, watch out! You’ll now be labelled ‘anti-active travel’ by affluent male cyclists who believe their desires must be prioritised. 👇🏾 @SocEnvJustice

Cyclists, e-bike and e-scooter riders are the state's no. 1 weapon in its fight to restrict everyone's mobility. But few are prepared to recognise it. Floating bus stops do NOT work anywhere. I've just come back from Cologne. They are as dangerous there as anywhere.
John Stewart@JohnJohnStewart

Life has just got a whole lot more difficult for a pedestrians, bus users and disabled people. Work on a new cycleway between Aldgate and Blackfriars is to go ahead after it was paused due to concerns about floating bus stops. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@NFBUK @JohnJohnStewart Floating bus stops seem to work elsewhere in Europe e.g. in Copenhagen. Have you been in touch with people there to ascertain why this is?

The overwhelming majority of traffic lights are unnecessary, yet the number installed has increased massively over the last twenty years. It's suspected this is a deliberate policy to create artificial delays as part of the wider anti-car agenda. transportxtra.com/publications/l…

Probably one of the more baffling takes I’ve seen. By that logic, any speed limit would be “dangerous” because drivers might look at their speedometer. Reality is, hit at 20mph has around a 90–95% chance of survival, whereas at 30mph the risk of death jumps significantly.
Bob For A Full Brexit@boblister_poole

20mph speed is an obstacle to sensible driving Keeping your eyes glued to the speedometer to ensure that you don’t exceed the limit by even 1mph is a recipe for dangerous driving, which puts pedestrians at risk. 20mph zones are desirable near schools! telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2026/0…

@PeterOneH Cost of an HE parking permit £80 per year; I am sure the scooter and bike share companies would be prepared to pay that for a dedicated space on the road which could park several bikes and scooters, not just one.

Welcome to the A306 dual carriageway. There is no school on this stretch of road. There are almost no pedestrians here using it. 40mph, right? In their infinite wisdom, London authorities have made this into a 20mph zone so they can farm speeding tickets.
Rupert Lowe MP@RupertLowe10

A Restore Britain Government would raise the speed limit on British motorways to 80mph, and slash back 20mph zones other than around schools. Too much petty regulation has held Britain back for far too long - Restore Britain would gladly burn that all away.

@DavidHu05137188 @swindonadver don't be so damn stupid. Any reasonable driver would find it annoying going at the WRONG SPEED FOR THE CONDITIONS. 30mph on an empty motorway....plain idiocy......60mph in a crowded busy high street. ...plain idiocy...DRIVE ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS!!

@20splentyforus it would be even more 'successful' if we drove at 10mph......or maybe if we had someone walking in front with a warning flag! Driving conditions change all the time and drivers should be instructed/ trained to drive according to the conditions.

@FidelUK @UKLabour @Heidi_Labour £4,198? Cheap. The cost of constructing a new motorway in the UK is highly variable, but generally falls around £18,000 per metre (£30 million per mile) on average.

Inquests can be adjourned ‘sine die’ (ie no plans to hold a separate inquest hearing) once criminal charges are brought - this is because in effect the conclusion is determined by the criminal court - ‘unlawful killing’, and the facts pertaining to the death are usually covered by the criminal court. In straight forward cases there should not be a requirement for a separate inquest hearing after the criminal court. But for this case I would argue separate inquest hearings are still required given the new evidence that’s since emerged as to the true cause and manner of death for the indictment babies
