When they rolled into St. Louis, the white newspapers called it a “stunt.” The Army said “impractical” and shut the program down. But the Iron Riders proved it could be done. Their commanding officer wrote: “No horse could have made it. These men did.”

I come back to one of my core posts... Serotonin. Dopamine. Glutamate. Opioid. All are neurotransmitter systems, yet only one is stigmatized. How did something so important for pain relief, mental health and immune system function get so demonized? We make our own endogenous opioids. It’s time we lead with science, not stigma.
