Hot take: if it has the same value everywhere you use it in the code & it doesn't *massively* reduce the amount of final CSS, don't use a CSS variable.
This mess on the :root is a massive nope.

I’m sorry but I’ve been burnt by so many things by Google as a customer:
1. Google App Engine, 2011 (lesson: never use Google cloud services again)
2. Nest, ~2019 (lesson: never buy home products from G again)
3. Domains, 2023 (lesson: never buy hosting / domains from G again)

Wow: Google IS killing Google Domains; selling it to Squarespace.
This is 10 million domains sold. Millions of customers like me learn again (and again!) that you cannot trust Google to keep their own products alive.
Show me another vendor that throws away customers like this…

It's times like this when it's hard to decide if Google will "kill" certain products, such as Google Domains. If it's a long-term investment: why not expand to all markets where Google Workspace is also present? If it's not a long-term investment: then why bother using it?

@ow The way I look at it is from a different angle - Google is actually encouraging teams to experiment and build inner competitors, caring more about the learning and functionality they create. so the product can die (for example Inbox) but the learning/features will added to Gmail

PSA don’t make your resume in Figma. When you export a PDF it converts the type to shapes and resume scanners won’t find any text to match.
